Now they are saying that the pilot was reporting a "technical" problem to the tower before the crash. This has been reported on Italian TV, but I do not know if it has been confirmed by the Air Traffic Control Center itself.

Esplosione a Milano al Grattacielo Pirelli

Una forte esplosione si è verificata poco fa a Milano, in piazzale Duca d'Aosta, ai piani alti del Grattacielo Pirelli, il palazzo della Regione. Secondo le prime informazioni si tratterebbe di un incidente, il pilota dell’aereo avrebbe infatti lanciato un sos prima dell’impatto. L'aereo sarebbe un Piper da turismo. L'impatto è avvenuto al di sopra del 25esimo piano e avrebbe coinvolto almeno cinque piani. Secondo quanto riferiscono testimoni oculari c’è uno squarcio ai piani alti della sede della Regione e fiamme alte, intorno, le sirene delle ambulanze e dei mezzi di soccorso che sono confluiti immediatamente, insieme agli elicotteri.
