This isn't adding up to any "accident"
Agreed. I just can't think of any scenario where a pilot loses an engine on his twin engine plane and is still able to "accidentally" hit the building straight and level.

If you want to find a benign explanation, pilot suicide for personal reasons is your best bet (which should not be ruled out).

Excellent points, all, beyond the snip above. I'm having a tough time believing that it is an accident as well.

I don't know much about air traffic control, but are records kept about when and where the plane changed directions? That's the evidence I'm most interested in at this point.

My pet theory: an arab radical muslim airport ground crew sees an elderly pilot prepping for flight, and says "here is my best opportunity to become a martyr and strike a blow at the evil satanic West", he kills the pilot either on the ground or in the air after hiding in the plane.

BTW, the "islamic cultural center" in Milan was the European HQ for Al Qaida, so the "WTC of Italy" would be a logical target.

There is a HUGE difference between being a pilot of a plane, and being a passenger on a plane. I would go with the pilots here, not the passengers. Jeez.

I guess it's much harder to hijack an airline.

The pilot was described as between 65 and 75 years of age, and was known to people at Locarno Airport.

From CNN

This might have been the best plan this guy could have concocted. As a suicide plan there are more factors than simply taking lives. This apparently was a good target for polical purposes.

Yes if it were simply a suicide plan, but I said suicide bomber like those on 9/11 were

They know something that we don't? Of course they may just be there for security reasons. We all know this was an accident don't we? I mean, really.

/sarcasm off.

Obviously. Is that his age? Definately, I mean?
Age shouldn't be a big deal (competence varies from person to person). Chuck Yaeger is an example of an more seasoned pilot.

If this is a terrorist act, it must have been done by the Jihad farm team, because in comparrison to 9/11 it is pretty lame.

Well, it's considerably harder to hijack a 747 now than it was before September 11.

While closing the Milan airport is suspicious to me, the fact that there was smoke coming out of the plane before it hit, combined with the SOS (which I recognize could be an attempt to cover up a real attack), makes me believe it was an accident.

Twenty lire bet that the pilot was of Arab extraction

I think it takes about 1800 lire to make a dollar. So 20 lire is about 1 cent.

I don't know his age. I'm just quoting from clueless posts of even more clueless news sources. Planes are usually rather stable in flight (else we would say "raining airplanes" rather than "cats and dogs" which are not so stable, [or maybe hailing taxicabs, really dangerous storms]) so if the guy was dead or he engaged the autopilot while trying to lower the wheels, the plane may have flown itself into the building. Payne Stuart's plane and (earier) the plane carrying the East Carolina football coach flew themselves on a straight an level path with all the passengers being dead. (Of course only until they ran out of fuel.)
