The background looked phoney to me also, completely phoney. I don't know if that means that he is dead or not, but it makes me wonder if they made a few tapes ahead just in case.

Thank you for the reference to the LA Times article, which we can't copy in full for our accademic review and education. I checked out the LA Times article and found it interesting, especially, "When I saw the excerpts from the so-called "new" Bin Laden tape broadcast Monday, I knew that Bin Laden didn't exist anymore. This was a desperate move to somehow fuel the hopes of his disciples that their leader is still alive."

As the author says this is just common sense. The author of the piece obviously examined the tape closely as he then goes on to say..."One portion of the tape likely shows a pre-December Bin Laden. His beard in the latest tape is darker than it was in a late December tape, and his skin looks much healthier. The grass is too green to represent a post-icy winter growth."

In thinking about this, I found his arguments pretty convincing, especially later on in the article, when he indicated that Bin Laden, if alive and in a safe location, would have made some kind of tape with a current newspaper to prove to his followers and to the Americans that he was more powerful than the US military forces tracking him down.

Yes, I too suspect that Bin Laden is being eaten by worms as we speak. I hope he died a horrible death. I visited ground zero in NYC on Veterans day last year after I spent some time in St Pat's Church. I will never get the vision out of my mind of those people in the Twin Towers jumping out of windows to their death. I want the U.S. military to show the Al-Quada no mercy.

Yes, assume there was a hidden message on the tape. If OBL's gang doesn't have a secret code, a combination of secret words and gestures, then what kind of cabal are they? Besides which, they are speaking Arabic, which in the right hands can be a highly encoded language to begin with.

A horrible thought enetered my mind when I read this. Odd I hadn't thought it before. Maybe the background wasn't supposed to look "real" to the trained eye. A predetermined scene could have been communicated as a signal that an event (Bin Laden's death) had occurred. I hope I'm completely wrong, but we just might want to be a bit more alert in the next few days. Again...I truly hope I just fell into a bag of tinfoil and can't get out...but this thought did cross my mind.

Oh...I haven't seen any of the other threads you are talking about. I just got home from work. Although I did hear on the radio that some people think bin Laden is dead. I think that could very well be true...he needs dialysis to survive doesn't he? I hope he is dead..otherwise Bush is gonna lose alot of points with his remark "we will get him".

I think he's been dead for a while, otherwise a new tape would have popped up - his supporters have been losing faith in him (not these recycled tapes that have turned up in the past couple of days that were made before and shortly after 9/11).

He looked sickly in the last real tape he made.
