I believe, as you may also, that Communism is an extremly dangerous ideology. One that has resulted in the deaths of untold millions of people. It goes without saying that an important tenant of Communism is that capitalism and all of its proponents are bad.
The portion of the movie in question promotes that view. When one considers the number of people seeing the movie, as well as the power to sway people's emotions that a good movie has, I don't think dangerous is too far off base.
Granted, the world is not going to end with a little Commie-friendly dialogue in one movie. I also concede that George Lucas has every right to promote any ideology he wants in his movie. On the other hand, the menace of Communism is real, and intelligent decent people have a responsibilty to fight it wherever it appears; in the newspaper, entertainment, on college campuses, etc.
You must agree with me on some level, or why would you be on FR?
Gee, that sounds like today's public indoctrination in government schools, doesn't it?
Goodkind should be required reading for all budding Conservatives and Libertarians, especially Soul of the Fire and Faith of the Fallen.
Interesting that so many of those who describe themselves as being on the Left, say it is because they "hate corporations and their power." I always wonder if they could imagine an America without corporations. A pretty grim thought to my mind.
One alternative is all industry being controlled directly by government, which means that industrial entities would have all the force, power and authority of the law (which seems to me to be a Frankenstein monster version of our present system). This is what the Russians tried.
The other alternative is that we could just live without all the achievements and technology that have become such an integral part of our lives.
Most large corporations are owned by the general public, every shareholder has a vote. You'd think that leftists would love this concept, as most of them claim that democracy is the root of their ideals.
I must be oblivious, I never noticed any leftist stuff in them, though I'm not surprised if it's there. Many movies seem to have an anti American reference in them somewhere.
I don't watch too many movies or even TV, it's a shame the whole arts world leans to the left.
I am reminded of a short fanfic I saw somewhere titled "The Real Ending of 'Return of the Jedi'".
One of the surviving Imperial admirals vents at length about the stupidity of building a Death Star instead of a proper fleet (and then doing it again when the first one gets blown up), building top-heavy, easily tripped "walkers" for ground combat, etc. As he winds down, one of his subordinates asks for orders.
The Admiral ponders a moment, then replies, "Get me a crown."
