What is the difference between virtual images 'which appear to simulate sex acts' and the real thing? Considering how realistic virtual technology - or the virtual "arts" - has become, I don't see how you can make an honest distnction between the two.

No children are harmed in making the fake stuff.

People may not be able to make a visual distinction, but there clearly is and should be a LEGAL distinction.
As I see it, the only difference between a drawing of 'child porn' and virtual child porn is the realism. NO children were used in the production of either.
Good call by the court.

Shall we ban all the Perry Mason books? These have all been suggested by some political gropus.

I agree. Any Pixar movie will show you that technology can create some amazingly life-like images. Very bad ruling. I just don't get the slippery slope argument when it comes to child porn.

Except that one involves real human participants and the other doesn't.

No kidding, this opens the door to realistic computer generated three year olds getting raped by sick bastards in a porn flick...which inevitably will lead to real three year olds getting raped by sick bastards in real life.
The Supreme Court blew it.

In virtual arena, that doesnt happen. Its all simulated. No kids are involved. Child pornography is banned because it harms the kids, not because its offensive to adults.
