I should add I liked his role in Spenser For Hire when he played the leading man detective. He couldn't have asked for a better opponent in Avery Brooks' being cast as Hawk. It lasted only three seasons, a pity which was his best work ever. Barbara Stock was a nice touch as girlfriend Susan Silverman. He played Jake Spoon in Lonesome Dove but I think Spenser was the highlight of his career as an actor. Robert Urich was just the kind of man who was difficult to typecast with a particular role as the above examples illustrate. He had a passion for doing about ANY work Hollywood offered. Its hard to recall someone who had the kind of likeability on camera he did.

Spenser for Hire was one of my all time favorite television detective shows .... Robert Urich was a very fine actor. You are also correct about Avery Brooks' role a 'Hawk' which gave the show its cutting edge.

Sorry to hear Robert Urich has passed away and I will pray for him and his family.
