I have to add an old favorite I learned from Robert A. Heinlein:
Never try to out-stubborn a cat.

Freedom, Wealth, and Peace,

8. "When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy".

I completely agree with this and I would add the words, "And Often Successful".

I'd respond to this point, but I have to go and give my guns their weekly cleaning, then reload a couple hundred cartridges, after which I'll only have time to read the new Guns & Ammo before going to sleep... after checking my "bedside" gun, of course.

A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person.

Also a great test for a potential mate. If they treat the waiter like crap, they'll probably treat you the same way when you become 'familiar'.

7. No matter what happens, somebody will find a way to take it too seriously,

and that person will post a vanity on Free Republic to share their indignation.

3. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Ouch.

Does that include lurking on FR?

Have you seen:

No, I don't suffer from my mental illness, I enjoy every minute of it!

Or before getting into your car to drive on the WEST SIDE HIGHWAY, after having a couple of beers with luch! I did that! No place to stop, and the trafic is sooo bad....You might as well die before you will get near a bathroom.

And re #14, never, never say anything to a woman who tells you she is pregnant other than "congratulations." (I'm PG now w/ #3 and you'd be amazed at the comments: "Was it planned? Will you be devastated if it's 'another boy'?," "Your house will be a zoo," etc.)

13. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.

I must disagree with #13. Daylight time is useful because, a) during summer months, the sun comes up so early that the morning daylight is wasted, as few are yet awake at sunrise; and b) the extra hour of daylight lengthens the time available for outdoor recreation.

Thus, you gain an hour of sunshine at, effectively, no cost.
