A good example of why it is not in our interest to tie ourselves by the neck to Israel:

Israel has the military might to wipe out her enemies overnight. But she doesn't. Israel wants to blame Bush and Powell for all of her problems and to make her war our war. We will have a much harder time and lose more American lives if we lose bases such as those in Bahrain. But the Israeli flacks on FR could care less about that.
