PORTLAND, Ore. -- A tree sitter in the Mount Hood National Forest died after falling 150 feet from a tree she was trying to protect from logging.

In a sad twist, the sale of timber the woman was protesting had been canceled three days before her death on Friday.

Local rescue crews struggled up snow-clogged dirt roads to reach the tree sitters' camp in the Eagle Creek wilderness area, east of Portland, after a fellow activist called 9-1-1 on a cell phone at about 7 p.m., Clackamas County Sheriff's spokeswoman Angela Blanchard said.

They ought to all be arrested for tresspassing, and made to pay restitution for the time that the logging crews, etc., had to wait for them to get out of the way, the cost of the law enforcement officials getting them out of there....

On March 20, 2002, the House Committee on Resources heard testimony from a variety of people regarding HR2829 and HR3705, two bills aimed at taking some of the bite out of the ESA. Interestingly, among them was Peter Illyn, Executive Director for a ministry called Restoring Eden. His testimony speaks volumes about the future of the enforcement of the ESA. His testimony discussed the biblical and moral argument for good stewardship as it relates to the ESA. His testimony is evidence of what many have been saying for years, that environmentalists have made their case a religious cause, and the many examples where irresponsible science was used to forfeit private property shows an alarming trend that we can ill afford to ignore.
It is possible that a fanatical religious group will impose upon the rest restrictions which its members will be pleased to observe but which will be obstacles for others in the pursuit of important aims. (Hayek, The Constitution of Liberty, p155)

I like the idea. Perhaps we could require of the tree-sitters that they bring forth scientific evidence that tree-sitting is not harming the trees. Weren't they disturbing the owls? Northern spotted owls losing genetic distinctiveness

when the snowblower landed on his head..

A lawsuit is in order. Clearly, the owners manual failed to provide detailed instructions regarding rooftop operations.

"fellow activist called 9-1-1 on a cell phone"

Conviction, that's why I support these guys so strongly. Let's see, having that cell phone meant you support:

Drilling for oil (plastic case)
Nuke power and/or air pollution from coal or oil (those batteries weren't charged by tofu-sion)
Strip mining (copper, tin, aluminum, nickel, etc)
Heavy metal pollution (lead, mercury)
Child/slave labor (made and/or assembled in China, Mexico, etc)
Killing trees (I KNOW you signed a contract for them free minutes, bub.)
And I'm sure they hiked out there from the condo (oops! urban sprawl)
911!?! That's the MAN, man. Whazzup wit dat? Call Greenpeace when you break your pencil neck, dude....

They could have left her worthless @ss where she stopped bouncing and provided essential nutrients in the form of enviro-mulch for the forrest and fattened up a spotted owl for Thanksgiving.

Based on the look, or lack thereof, in her eyes, I hazard a guess that there is a large amount of Swiss cheese behind the temple.

SHE was an idiot and I have no sympathy for the silly wench. Principles worth dying for start with freedom, ask any vet. People who honor the country by defending America are worlds apart from brain dead greenies. That her family has to carry the burden of grief for her stupidity is sad. If there is a law suit, hopefully it is her parents going after the greenies who "brainwashed" her into such a stupid idea. Even that I have a hard time with that, because she chose to be there....but hey, the liberal call will never allow them to be responsible for theirselves...gotta blame somebody/sarcasm>.

They should log the place in celebration of the end of the green thought rule, and put Oregon's people to work.Currently Oregon has the highest unemploment in the nation because of the green machine, because of these kind of idiots.

"If a flake falls from a tree alone in the forest, does it make a sound?"

Yes--- it goes something like this:

"Aiiiiiiieeeeeee Ahhhhhhmmmm Stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupiiiiiiiiiiiiid"

THUMP

(And once again Darwin smiles!)

And the human gene pool becomes a bit stronger as a result.
