The Libertarian Party calls this all a private matter between consenting adults, and no bidness of the busy-body neighbors. "It's the responsibility of parents to educate their children, not the employer of their indentured servant-daughter or the public taxpayer," declared Ima Phool, spokesperthing of the L.P.

Hey, CJ, I posted this too! :-) HERE

I think this is where I'd part ways with the LP. A 12 year old who is enslaved is not the way of this country by any means.

"Who are we to pass moral judgments upon other people," asked Ima Phool of the L.P. "It's not the bidness of the state how consenting people choose to live their lives."

What business does the government have in preventing child slavery? Let the children beware!

Anyway, expect more stories like this --- and worse --- as we let these people swarm over our borders.

Goodbye, American values.

Say, what does this have to do with the Libertarian Party? Is the guy a Libertarian? Cite please - put up or shut up. Halfwit parody doesn't count as justification.

Ibrahim's attorney, Allan Stokke, said the girl was considered a member of the family...

Kind of like a dog is considered a "member of the family."

Um. Isn't this what multiculturalism is, they bring their culture here and we are supposed be tolerant.

And how totally sexist that they only arrested the husband. The feminazis are going to get pissy.

Someone forgot to take his medicine today. Perhaps your thorazine dosage needs to be increased.

Exactly. Every single human being has the inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and that understanding can be a great gift which the United States, that "city upon the hill," can bring to the whole world. Unfortunately for the world, there are humanist ideologues who think people have a right to abrogate their inalienable rights, which would mean the rights are not really inalienable at all. "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" has become "an early death, slavery to vice, and the pursuit of unneeded suffering."

This kid was treated worse than a dog. At least a dog is allowed to go outside to pee.

If I may Sam, I think you touch on something very important.........

.......many of the liberal types here will harp on and on about how we should allow this to happen, how we should defer to other cultures, so on and so forth. What most forget is the fact that many of these folks don't share our traditional ideas of justice, charity, etc.........they live like, well, the example in the article. This is a way of life to many, and to some here, forgive me if I sound 'ethnocentric', but I'll take our traditional way of doing things anytime over the conventions of Third World countries that many seem to be so willing to adopt, and yes, embrace.

You choose to criticize the libertarian position based on this extreme situation. That's fair enough- this situation is very unsettling, and a good case could be made that it would be permitted by a libertarian government.

Now, suppose that instead of living as a servant to this family, this poor girl was sent to a public school instead. At this school, she spends her day being assaulted by hypersexual students, being taught to love promiscuity and hate America, and generally being immersed in moral-liberalism (to borrow one of your terms).

Would you accept if someone pointed to that particular hell-hole of a school as an example of why the public education system must go?

At least with a public school system, there is hope that it can be reformed or be given local control. With a libertarian tyranny, people would have no right to determine what kind of a society they are to live in.

There's no need to invent reasons to disrespect the Libertarian Party. There's plenty of reason not to trash up FR with halfwit nonsense.

I wonder how many more cases like this are out there, considering California's slide into third-world values. Plenty of fascist types in evidence everywhere these days.

At least with a public school system, there is hope that it can be reformed or be given local control. With a libertarian tyranny, people would have no right to determine what kind of a society they are to live in.

Remember, there are a lot of very liberal localities, and some of them might like a school where the students learn to hate organized religion and are free to "explore" their sexuality on other students.

Also, notice that I said this case of indentured servitude might be permissible under a libertarian government. In a libertarian society, however, people would probably use non-coercive social means to end this practice. That is, they might choose not to associate in any way with someone who keeps a 12 year old servant in their garage. In this way, people in a libertarian society actually would be able to influence the kind of society they are to live in.

I should also point out that a libertarian government could legitimately prohibit this kind of behavior. Libertarians believe that children have rights too, but because they lack the ability to reason, most of those rights are usually held and exercised by their parents. Most libertarians recognize that there are certain rights which a parent can not exercise in their child's name. Accepting indentured servitude may be one of them.

Libertarian values?

Many conservatives don't believe in gun control laws. Does that make a workplace shooting an example of conservative values?

Most conservative believe in the freedom of religious worship. Does that make a racist, cult-like church an example of conservative values?

Of course, we are all still waiting for the L.P. to publish their famous "Shun List" of child slavers so as to shun them properly. Rational people might want to give the "Shun List" a trial run before overthrowing a millennia of jurisprudence for the flakey ideology of moral-liberal humanists.
