Turkey's good relations with Jews go all the way back to when the Spanish kicked most Jews out of Spain, 1492 or thereabouts

My wife (who is Spanish) and I met some Spanish-speaking Turks in 1973 when we were stationed at Incirlik. Dont know if they were Jews or Islamic, the latter I thought, but it was a bizarre time. Speaking to Turks who spoke 15th century Spanish, handed down through the generations! Wild!

They were the ones we sent to Germany that have unfortunately missed the industrial revolution due to the lack of basic facilities in rural regions during the 50's and 60's. They are unfortunately not a good representation of the ordinary man on the street in Turkey. Not that I find them inferior to us in any way. They had to endure a quantum leap in civilization whereas we've had a chance to absorb it over a longer period of time. Plus we didn't have to deal with the problem of being regarded as second-class humans by everybody else in town and were thus not forced into trying to preserve our identity by isolating ourselves from the social and technical development around us. Being a 'Gastarbeiter' in 'Deutchland uber alles' is not one of the best professions in the world.

Those people were probably Sephardic Jews that fled from the Spanish Inquisition primarily around 1492. Their 'native tongue' is Judeo-Spanish and is still being used by some Turkish Jews. Here's a link to an 8 page weekly newspaper [1 page in Judeo-Spanish] published in Turkey called Salom [pronounced Shalom].

I to have met many Turks and travelled quite a few times to thier country.

The way I describe it to my friends here is that we are 85% Christian in the US but we are not a religious dictatorship. The Turks are 85% Moslem but are a secular country like us.

The funny part is that when the Turkish government cracks down on Jihadist whackos, the Europeans wail about human rights. So, they would PREFER a fundamentalist dictatorship in the name of human rights!?!? IMHO Ataturk is one of the twentieth centuries HEROS!.

The Turks are not Arabs, they are Turks. They have been fierce enemies but also stalwart allies. We have warred with many different peoples and maybe we are wrong at times but they have ALWAYS moved on. Japan, Germany, Viet Nam have ALL moved on. We hurt all of them a HELL of a lot more then we ever hurt the Arab population.

What makes the Arab psyche so susceptible to mindless hatred and revenge? I have a few ideas but I am past caring excep as an academic exercise.

I have studied Arabic culture, I have Arabic friends and I have been to most of the countries over in the Middle East. You know what, I can not take thier mindless propoganda much longer.

Most blue collar Americans that I talk to(This is in MAssachusetts mind you!), want to just NUKE THEM ALL. That is not my belief but I just wanted lurkers to know the pulse of the "American Street". Thats right, we as a whole want to kick your ass and leave it at that. Oh, this is from the "American Street" so it should be just as valid as crap from the "Arab street". As I said, I am just posting what I have observed. I suppose thats wrong but the "Arab Street" can scream for my blood and thats OK because they are different.

I personally support Nukes ONLY after we have been attacked by the same. I just thought I would give the view of the "American Street"

What does this have to do with Turkey? The two paragraphs above have little to do with Turkey but let me emphatically state that Turkey is our friend, and they have hunted Jihadists during the ENTIRE twentieth Century. I will not abandon such a great people and thier nation. My advice to Turkey, say goodbye to the EU and join more fully with us. We have been bad to you in the past but the Europeans have been FAR worse.

My advice to fundamentalists... the AMERICAN STREET is pissed and WE DONT LOSE!!! LIsten to our media if you wish but every act of terror that you THINK makes us fearful instead makes millions want to wipe you off of the face of the Earth. All this after we TRY to cater to Arab wishes. PATHETIC!
