BUSH/ASHCROFT REWARDED MIAMI INS DIRECTOR WITH PROMOTION TO REGIONAL DIRECTOR POSITION

Robert Wallis Admits “Proudest Moment of His Life” Was When INS Agent Held Shotgun To Peaceful Protester’s Head During Illegal Raid On Elian Gonzalez’s Family Home In Miami’s “Little Havana”

(Miami) Judicial Watch, the public interest law firm that investigates and prosecutes government corruption and abuse, took the sworn testimony of Robert Wallis today, wherein the former Miami INS director revealed that he was selected for promotion to Regional INS Director and transferred to Texas in April 2001, under the Bush Administration and Attorney General John Ashcroft.

Wallis admitted, under examination by Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman, that the “proudest moment of his life” was captured in an Associated Press photograph of INS Supervisory Special Agent Gwenn Reed holding a shotgun to the head of a prone and “spread-eagle” protestor – Mario Miranda – during the illegal INS raid to return young Elian Gonzalez to Communist Cuba. Mr. Miranda is a retired Miami police officer and was responsible for safety and security around the Gonzalez home. Wallis’ testimony came during a Merit Systems Protection Board hearing for INS whistleblower and Judicial Watch client Rick Ramirez. Mr. Ramirez “blew the whistle” on anti-Cuban and anti-Hispanic bigotry in the Miami INS office, as well as INS supervisors’ orders to destroy all documents and computer records concerning the Elian Gonzalez saga. Earlier testimony from INS attorney Diana Alvarez confirmed that the orders to destroy documents and records came from INS Commissioner Doris Meissner.

Wallis confirmed that he was aware of Mr. Ramirez’s whistleblower disclosures, and of the pervasive anti-Cuban and anti-Hispanic bigotry in the Miami INS office.

Judicial Watch, as counsel for Special Agent Ramirez, has made repeated requests for over one year to Attorney General Ashcroft, asking that he take action in this matter.

“It is shocking that rather than take steps to clean out the Miami office of anti-Cuban and Hispanic prejudice, that instead Ashcroft and his Bush administration rewarded, with a promotion, the district director responsible for the prejudice. This shows insensitivity to the rights of Hispanics,” stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.

Lawyers are frequently called "bottom-feeders." I consider Larry one such because he misleads, he is a frivolous filer of lawsuits, and, as someone else mentioned, we don't know who his donors are nor what he is doing with 23 million dollars.

Please be kind enough to list for me all of Larry's accomplishments to date. (I do appreciate him having made Bill's and Hillary's lives miserable with his lawsuit against them.)

He is the founder, chairman, and general counsel. I don't see any "board" listed on the web site.

"Is he Chairman of the Board? Does the Board vote on or approve his $250,000+ yearly Salary?"

Well, he is the chairman of Judicial Watch. So what if he earns $250,000 in yearly pay? Are you trying to bring up the class-conflict argument? People who work hard shouldn't be castigated for making good money. I am sick and tired of hearing people complain about others who make good money for working hard their entire life. Klayman makes what he should for being a lawyer with over 22 years of legal experience.

I remember the 'proudest moment of my life' comment, but Wallis was referring to the successful completion of the op itself, rather the scene depicted in the photo that is mentioned in the press release.

I'd love to see the transcript to verify that Wallis actually said that he was aware of "the pervasive anti-Cuban and anti-Hispanic bigotry in the Miami INS office".

Judicial Watch respects the privacy of their donors and besides, why should they when the law does not require them to do so? When Judicial Watch harps on Government Agencies and Branches, they do so because it is their legal right to under the law. There is no such law requiring non-profits to disclose their donor list. Judicial Watch stays accountable to their donors by doing their job, their donors do not ask them to publish their names and addresses to the public and nor does the law.

He has over 22 years of legal experience in trial and international trade law. He worked at a private firm for a while and then went to work for the Justice Department, apparently in the Antitrust Division. After his experience there went into private practice again and then formed his own law firm, which is a considerable accomplishment. After that, I think that he formed Judicial Watch in 1994. Larry Klayman has done a lot in his life so far and is bound to accomplish a lot more before he retires.

Thanks. I looked around and discovered that the rules published on March 14, 2002, were not the last step toward opening the border to Mexican truckers. The actual opening of the border may take a while, but it is expected later this year.

"That Robert Wallis was promoted?

That he was promoted by Bush/Ashcroft?

That he said something about the happiest day in his life?

Or just what is it that the "eWW' is touting?"

*Sigh* I have to take enough tests in school, let alone answering a multiple quiz on the internet. You guys are not objective graders.

But if you insist, the most accurate answers to your little quiz would be choices 1 and 2.

You post Larry's own list of his accomplishments! Larry lists as "accomplishments" mere decisions about lawsuits that haven't even been decided yet! Pathetic, simply pathetic. And sad.

Why? Everything that I would have said is already embodied in this press release. I do not equate accomplishments with court wins.

I've decided that you are full of bull. You didn't know any of Klayman's accomplishments-- because there are none-- so you had to refer me to his own propaganda list-- which is much ado about nothing. You have your hero-- enjoy.

In making this claim, I respectfully and vehemently disagree with you. I have followed Judicial Watch cases closely since I was in high school. One quick example was when Klayman subpoenaed Clinton fundraiser John Huang in 1996. It was because of Klayman's FOIA suits against the Commerce Department that we found out that the Clinton Administration was selling overseas trade missions to the highest bid for his presidential campaign chest. It was also the publicity that Klayman generated that sparked some tough congressional investigations into the Chinagate Scandal and Lippogate Scandals. In 1996, Klayman also forced fomer Clinton aide Harold Ickes to testify and got Pentagon spokesperson Ken Bacon to admit under oath that he leaked damaging information about Clinton whistleblower Linda Tripp, to the press. Because of Klayman's lawsuits and the revelations/facts that came from them, the government then fined John Huang $8 million in fines for campaign finance violations. John Huang will probably not commit these crony crimes again. Being cynical is always easy, but please, please, look at all the facts before arriving at so harsh a conclusion.

Judicial Watch is also prosecuting the $90 million class action lawsuit on behalf of those whose FBI files were stolen and misused by the Clinton White House. Judicial Watch also exposed this e-mail scandal in 2000, through the representation of Sheryl Hall, Betty Lambuth, among others. The court is considering whether to commence criminal contempt proceedings.

You must not follow Judicial Watch stories very well. Who do you think sparked the Chinagate scandal? It was Klayman's FOIA request to the Department of Commerce that sparked a congressional investigation into Lippo, etc. It was Klayman who uncovered the fact that the Clinton Administration was selling overseas trade missions to those who would contribute the most to his presidential campaign war chest.

You need to understand that it is the Justice Department's job to criminally prosecute the Clintons. Law firms cannot bring criminal charges against Clinton, only state and federal prosecutors can. Klayman is doing all that he possibly can when he says that he will hold the Clintons accountable for their crimes. He can represent people who were detrimented by the Clintons and bring civil suits against them for monetary damages. That being said, those who have the power and ability to really put the Clintons in jail, are not doing so and it is not Klayman's fault.

Also, Larry Klayman is doing something about Jesse Jackson. He is representing the Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson in a lawsuit alleging that Jackson and his son assaulted him at a rainbow/push meeting for Toyota.

I have seen many good things that Larry Klayman has done. Such as exposing the fact that the Clinton Administration was selling overseas trade missions to the highest contributer to his campaign war chest. This had caused many to re-examine the behavior of Bill Clinton and his cronies. Klayman has also tried to bring back the slandered reputations of Notra Trulock and Linda Tripp. These people had the right to be represented by a good lawyer and have their names be cleared of the wrong doing against them that was politically motivated. When no one else was willing to help them, Klayman came and offered his services. He did the absolute best that he could. Ken Bacon admitted under oath that he had leaked damaging information to the press about Linda Tripp and we now know that Notra Trulock's name was wrongfully slandered because he was a government whistleblower. I didn't see anyone else offering to help these people.

Again, you cannot equate court wins with success or accomplishment. Justice is not a sporting event.

The INS is now in such trouble with the Congress that both Wallis and "Mustache Man" may not be able to enjoy their perks for long.

Especially now that Castro may be about to fall. If that happens, our government is going to find out a lot about the connections between Castro and Clinton.

Agreed that President Bush probably wouldn't have concerned himself with Wallis's appointment? But Ashcroft?
