HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - HBO has picked up rights to the film "Journeys With George," a documentary following then-presidential candidate George W. Bush on the campaign trail.
"Journeys" features Alexandra Pelosi -- daughter of U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat -- tagging along with Bush for 18 months as he stumped for the White House. HBO plans to air "Journeys" later this year.
Already a hot commodity, "Journeys" is following up its March premiere at the South By Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, with screenings at the Double Take, San Francisco, and Tribeca festivals.
Pelosi, a former NBC "Dateline" producer, apparently intended to finish the project regardless of Bush's participation. At certain times in the film, though, the Republican candiate does warm to the camera.
"What it reveals is how we elect our presidents, and George Bush is just one of the many great characters on the road trip," says Pelosi of "Journeys." "I certainly would not have been able to pull this off if I were covering Al Gore (news - web sites)."
Pelosi recently opened her own shingle, Purple Monkey Prod.
Human vs. robot.
Human wins.
Cool!
Kinky.
Yes, indeed! What a combination of personality characteristics! Charming goofiness and steely strength in the same guy! Gotta love it!
And the clip is hilarious! Now how can I get HBO for just one night?!!
I've said all along that if the American public saw the real George W. Bush, they would love him (and that's why the media kept trying to hide him from us.) Well, after 9/11, the serious, resolute, compassionate side was revealed to the whole country, and now they're going to get to see the goofy side! I LOVE IT!!
Oh my yes! I can't wait either. Not only is our president a hunk, he also has an adorable personality!
HBO casts yes vote for Bush campaign documentaryWhile it is good to see the folks at Yahoo! out there on the "cutting edge" with this "breaking news" story, they COULD have known this almost a MONTH ago, if they had read the Dose!Wed Apr 10, 2:51 AM ET

...Another documentary, "Journeys With George," is Alexandra Pelosi's digital minicam view from inside the 2000 Bush presidential campaign. (Ms. Pelosi, an NBC News producer, began "Journeys" as a side project. It moved to center stage when her candidate was elected.) It takes aim at several journalists but is most fascinating because of the way it dwells on the fine line between being the manipulator and the manipulated. Mr. Bush and Ms. Pelosi are canny stalkers, he with his jovial, fraternity-president charm and she with her loud outfits and an apparently scattered manner that masks her determination. Her shopping mall technology probably made Mr. Bush drop his guard a bit, and she gets more out of her camera just because of propinquity. But he never lets his guard down too far; his savvy with the press means he's always playing the candidate at some level, and she's charmed by the character he's playing.
"Journeys" is a sea change from the tradition of Timothy Crouse's "Boys on the Bus," primarily because it may well be the last opportunity for such a worm's-eye view of a presidential candidate. It's hard to believe campaign advisers will ever be this relaxed and accommodating around the press again. ("Journeys With George" has just been picked up by HBO.)...
You are absolutely correct about the media manipulating the voters! It should be criminal.
