Getting rid of Arafat won't change a thing. There still will be no peace in the Mid-East. The author makes the common mistake of thinking that the Palestinians are an organized state, and nothing could be further from the truth. Palestinian organizations tolerate Arafat as a titular head but do not feel obligated to take instruction from him in any way.

"In 1993, Arafat was in Tunisia, exiled from the West Bank and an international pariah. Guess who lifted the ban on US diplomatic contacts with the PA? The architect of the current war in Israel was President Bill Clinton who, having not learned any of the lessons of previous President's missteps, thought he could achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israelis. In September 1993, he called a peace deal "a shining moment of hope." That was the same year of the first attack on the World Trade Center."

If we do not negotiate with 'terrorists'; then, there can be no negotiatins with 'Dictator Arafat'. The PA is 'Taliban' without the soil on which to perpetrate their 'fundamentalism', IMHO.

Which shared the 'headlines' with the 'terrorist attacks' on the Branch Davidians at WACO, lest we forget.

All of this is being funded by the nations that include Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Saudi Arabia.

Not to mention most of Europe and the USA.

I really can't stand watching Arafat kissing all these guy's all the time, there is somthing very wrong with all these guy's kissing each other all the time....They place such a high ideal of their man-hood, yet domination of woman and using children for bomb's, seem's to be the only power they have; we get our power by being civilized, working in system's with co-operation with each other; I think their failure is their culture and religion based on glorifying male narcissism...They just don't fit into a modern civilized world!

Agree!!!! And as soon as possible! No one can deal with a liar! It's a waste of time, money and resources to even talk to this terrorist. His demise will create a vacumn, which something/someone will fill, but it couldn't be worse.

Great article. This problem is much bigger than Sharon v. Arafat. There will have to be a reckoning.

This history ought not be ignored, which it is. Bill Clinton supported Oslo, took Arafat from Tunis and installed him in Ramallah, intervened in Israeli politics to eject Netanyahu and Likud and replace them with the pro-peace Labor party, and personally chaired peace talks between Barak and Arafat. Clinton did everything the liberals, Europeans and pundits are saying Bush should do.

What did the US get in return for following this advice? WTCI, Khobar Towers, Mogadishu, the Africa Embassies, the Cole and 9-11. What did Israel get? The intifada and suicide bombers. What did Arafat get? Power and money.
