-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BETHLEHEM: ARMENIAN MONK INJURED IN CHURCH OF NATIVITY LIES IS IN CRITICAL CONDITIONS (STANDARD, CHURCH/RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS)
The young Armenian monk that was injured this morning in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, lies in critical conditions but is not in danger of death. The 23-year-old monk, Armen Fianian, is presently hospitalised in the hospital Hadassah Ein Kerem of Jerusalem. He has not yet gained conscience says Bishop Shirvanian Aris, Director of the Ecumenical & Foreign Relations of the Armenian Patriarchate in the Holy Land, interviewed by MISNA the doctors have managed to stop the haemorrhage and say his conditions are stable. He will probably be operated tonight or at the latest tomorrow morning. Fianian is a novice of the Armenian community that lives in the convent close to the Basilica of the Nativity. This morning he was inside his room when a bullet hit him in his right shoulder. We are not able to confirm if the bullet was fired by an Israeli soldier or a Palestinian specified Bishop Aris. Fianian was rushed to the hospital in Jerusalem by an Israeli ambulance. At the moment 6 monks of the Armenian community are inside the Church. Will you evacuate them? It is not a subject of conversation at the moment concludes Aris the priority at the moment is the health of Armen. (CO)
