Do you support a declaration that the USA is a Christian nation with special privileges to any person who is Christian, and lots of abuse to non-Christians? If you said yes, you would be a fool, and if you said no, then you are inconstant!

Not at all. The US was founded as a non-sectarian nation by Christians. It was a Christian nation, although it no longer is.
That said, countries can be founded in any way the people want. If a bunch of Muslims get together in a country and found it as a Islamic Republic or even Caliphate, that is their right.

Eventually, Palestinian resistance may shake off Israel's ugly reign of terror in the West Bank and Gaza. Until then Palestinian (and Israeli) victims will continue to accumulate.

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the same Omnipotent God who is involved in Israel today, and in the affairs of all mankind. You said that He should not be involved in the "mess" of issues. That is what all non-believers would like, that's that the anti-Messiah likes you to say. This is still His creation and we will all soon see how He rules, the outcome will be too divine for your earthly taste.

May the Palestinians terrorists in their reign of terror be brought to their end.

Philo, hate to disillusion you on this, but Israel really is a non-religious country. Your average Israeli is not at all religious, and views holidays like Yom Kippur as a good excuse to go to the beach. Seriously. The religious parties have a fair amount of political power in their parliamentary system, but to call Israel a theocracy is just wrong.

Ditto that on the Palestinians. What they are, are Arab nationalists, like the Iraqis and Egyptians. Despite the religious rhetoric, your average Palestinian is nowhere as religious as, say, your average Saudi.

Either way ya' gotta' admit, the Romans had a very impressive run.

By whose standards? Doesn't seem to impressive to me. Now this is impressive:

Revelation 21:6 He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.

Actually, no I don't. But it doesn't matter a damn bit what I think is best. It is the Israelis who have chosen that their state will be an ostensibly Jewish one. My gripe with your point is that your opinion doesn't matter a damn bit either.

Now tell me what some of the differences are between Israel as Jewish state and Saudi Arabia as a Muslim monarchy.

Here, I'll help you. Israel permits the free exercise of all faiths. A sizable portion of the Israeli electorate is made up of Arab Christians and Muslims. Bibles, churches, temples, anything to do with any faith but Sunni Islam are banned in Saudi Arabia. The choice for Americans is not to change how those people govern themselves as much as it is to choose between a freely chosen and tolerant "theocracy" and one that is murderously closed.

Regarding your education, my remark was intended to parody your dictatorial tone. I have no idea what soaring heights you have attained in your academic career, but people who fantasize about having the power to dictate instant "solutions" to what are highly emotional and intractable problems are childish. So, what grade did you complete that got you to this "philosofical" (sic) point ?

Today's front page in The Wall Street Journal, there is an intriguing article about (our friend) Saudi Arabia. They said that 25% of the population are non-Moslem foreign workers. The Saudi have to ship out hundreds of dead workers because they consider them infidel/not clean? The sands of their freaking desert is full of Camel dung, but god forbid cannot burry a Buddhist or a Christian worker!

.... the Romans had a very impressive run.

Yep.

Gotta admit it.

Until, that is, God rendered unto Rome, that which was Rome's!

[Payback's a b*tch, eh, Big Julie?]

Good line.

But I'll still file the decline of Rome as the natural pathology of Empires rather than the hand of God.

BTW...who's "Big Julie".

LOL!

Never had the pleasure of knowing any of those guys personally, but from my days in NY I did get to know "Tommy Ice", "Billy Lobster", the great "Bootsie" (who tried to rob a bank at age seventy), and "Big Uncle Eddie" (who once threatened to cut my ears off).

I used to wonder what was worse, having those guys as enemies...or having those guys as friends.
