From the Associated Press website (http://wire.ap.org):

Hickman said she has been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic and is taking medication for depression. She told the Fresno Bee for Sunday editions: "All I said was that when I opened my eyes, some of my clothes were gone and he was the only one around. I was unconscious. I don't know if he molested me, but he could have."

She added that nearly everyone she has encountered in her life, including classmates, family members and former co-workers have abused or molested her.

Ya gotta take that "kick me" sign off your backside every once in a while, hon.

Too bad Catholic priests cannot be accorded the same presumption of innocence given homosexual scoutmasters and adoptive parents. Or for that matter the Clintons (which includes a long list of rape and sexual harrassment charges in the case of Bill).

The media has a different agenda of course.

The good bishop will now take pity on her and offer to pick up the cost of her medications, in much the same manner that Pope John Paul II forgave the individual who shot him.

This woman is beginning to sound nuttier than a fruitcake. This is just too sad, that this woman places the cardinal in such a tenuous situation that he has to defend himself against something that probably never happened. No matter, his reputation is certainly on the line. because of her accusation.

"I can't even tell you when it happened," Hickman told the Times.

She told the Fresno Bee for Sunday editions: "All I said was that when I opened my eyes, some of my clothes were gone and he was the only one around. I was unconscious. I don't know if he molested me, but he could have."

A supervisor at a fast-food restaurant where Hickman worked for seven years claimed Hickman often made unfounded accusations of abuse against co-workers, the Times reported.

Unfortunately, the powerful combination of religious symbolism
and the promise of instant celebrity and public media attention is
likely to stir up other kooky and schizoid types. These are two
powerful areas of culture which can trigger an unbalanced imagination.

A woman who accused Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony of molesting her more than 30 years ago said in a newspaper interview on Sunday she suffers from schizophrenia and decided to sue the cleric after her disability payments were cut.

How convenient. It's all about money, isn't it.

How many lives and careers have been ruined because of lawyers' playing off of mentally unstable women. And yes, there are many, many women who make this up. Our culture does not like to believe that women are sexually delusional and can lie about such a thing. Just remember Anita Hill.
