I agree with you. Syria's military is so old and outdated that they would get crushed, AND THEY KNOW IT!

A couple of years ago the Jerusalem Post ran a story about the scud missles in Damascus. It seems the Syrians built a moat around the city and placed scud missles in the moat; all of which are aimed at Israel. If they launch those missles into Israel, you will see Isaiah 17:1 fulfilled.
