I saw 21 US Marines in full dress, with rifles, fire a 21-gun salute to the outgoing president.

Although funny, it's inaccurate. 21-gun salutes are fired by naval guns or saluting artillery batteries. Rifles are not guns. If this would have happened you would have witnessed a rifle volley, not a 21-gun salute.
