A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 4/5/02

President Bush welcomed British Prime Minister Tony Blair to the Western White House today for talks about the current crisis in the Middle East. The meeting was initially supposed to be about Iraq, but has taken a detour given recent events in Israel. In an interview with Granada television, however, Bush made it clear that Saddam Hussein has to go (see the QotD). Enjoy the daily dose of Dubya!

I haven't read the other replies yet so many others may have caught this, but it's funny that on Blair's first trip to see Bush, the press (especially the Brits) blasted old Tony for showing up like an English schoolboy, waaaay underdressed and sissy-looking; some of the Brits asked if he couldn't have taken time to pack before catching his plane, and W was all decked out in the proper attire for Camp David, rough and rugged. So now poor Ton' comes rollin' into town all dressed up in his suit and tie, and the Bush's meet them in casual clothes.

Darth, since you were not polite enough to reply to my post yesterday, I will post it again to you. You are very much like a swarm of gnats, who are incessantly annoying, and serve no useful purpose. I know you believe yourself to be above us, but your admiration of evil belies your self proclaimed concern for our welfare. No one wants you here........ever again.

Darth, I do not have a history of knowing, as Gretchen does, that you normally make thoughtful comments, and had no idea why you did nothing more than post a single Latin phrase, except that it was obviously meant to criticize us for our admiration of the President.

I don't know how often you come here, but if you knew most of us as individuals, you would know that we are fiercely independent thinkers, most of whom are dedicated Christians who worship a Holy and Almighty God, and are overwhelmingly thankful that in His Sovereignty, he placed George W. Bush in authority over us.

While I understand the danger of idolatry as a believer, it is my responsibility before God to be in prayer that my intense admiration not turn into idolatry (and believe me, I am). And I do not appreciate (that's putting it mildly) some complete stranger, who knows nothing about me, or my walk with the Lord, accusing me of idolatry, cult worship, kool-aid drinking, or the other things I have been accused of (some obscene).

For one thing, I assume you are male. And I would guess you have interpreted harmless comments about the President's appearance as being more significant than they are. We have a whole lot of fun on this thread. We admire the President. We like the way he looks, the way his wife looks, the way they love each other, the President's quick wit, the way he acts around kids and animals...... but there is a significant difference between us and a 'cult of personality.'

Because we are thinking, principled people here, the appreciation of those things is a by-product of our respect for the man, and what he stands for. We may disagree with him. We may not understand what he is doing, but we respect him, and that respect will not go away unless he does something to cause it to happen.

There is not one person here who does not understand that he is just a man. That, sir, is why many of us pray for him daily. But he is a man being used by God to do great things because he, himself is yielded to God, and as long as that is true, and, as I said earlier, the GLORY is given to GOD, you needn't worry about him......or us.

President Chester Arthur's wife was truly beautiful, in my opinion. I'll see if I can find her photo again and post it. If I can, I'd like to hear any comments on what others see in her countenance.

Miss Marple, you don't have permission to leave the room (The Dose) except when our president's second term ends.

Your post at #57 gave me a belly laugh.

Exhibit 7849-02b of crude media bias is evident whenever Bush and Blair get together. These guys really like and respect each other as men - and world leaders carrying a historic responsibility. Remember how hard the media tried to invent this Clinton-Blair rock n roll new generation bond? Blair hated Clinton, you could see the contempt oozing from his every pore. Clinton always put on that disgusting Alpha Male act when he was with foreign leaders ... he'd position himself to be taller (especially with Putin, who hated Clinton viscerally too), and I recall one time when Clinton elbowed Blair out of the way and hustled ahead of his host to gladhand Elizabeth Hurley in the reception line. Before her national leader could. What a piece of crap. But the media kept on pummelling us with these stories of jam sessions ... late night chatfests. Tony on guitar, Clinton on Sax. Arrrggggh. It was pure propaganda, it was pathetic 50 something editors and reporters trying to invent some new Camelot fantasy. It was a fraud, one among many the Professional "jouranlists" presented during those years.

Bush and Blair ... they have a genuine affection, trust and respect for one another. That's our President, he's a man who has earned the trust and support of our most important allies. Tony Blair and Vlad Putin ... the two most talented, clever and intuitive politicians on Earth ... have cast their entire political futures to stand with President Bush. That tells me a lot, and it's all good.

If they really believe it why do they always cover their faces?

Separated at birth.

I found one photo of Mrs. Chester (Ellen) Arthur on the WH web site, but it's so small you won't be able to see much of her face, especially since it is a sideways photo, but to me it still shows the serenity of her being. She never actually got to become a First Lady, as her husband was elected later in the year that she died. I hope no one at the WH web site follows my footprints back here and smacks me around for linking a photo from their site.

Here's a short bio excerpt from the same site.

Ellen Lewis Herndon Arthur

Chester Alan Arthur's beloved "Nell" died of pneumonia on January 12, 1880. That November, when he was elected Vice President, he was still mourning her bitterly. In his own words: "Honors to me now are not what they once were." His grief was the more poignant because she was only 42 and her death sudden. Just two days earlier she had attended a benefit concert in New York City--while he was busy with politics in Albany--and she caught cold that night while waiting for her carriage. She was already unconscious when he reached her side.

While Ellen was still just a girl her beautiful contralto voice attracted attention; she joined the choir at St. John's Episcopal Church on Lafayette Square.

At the White House, Arthur would not give anyone the place that would have been his wife's. He asked his sister Mary (Mrs. John E. McElroy) to assume certain social duties and help care for his daughter. He presented a stained-glass window to St. John's Church in his wife's memory; it depicted angels of the Resurrection, and at his special request it was placed in the south transept so that he could see it at night from the White House with the lights of the church shining through.

I found it! The other photo of Mrs. Arthur I was looking for. She was born in 1837 and died at age 42 in 1880; I don't know when this photo was taken.

The neat thing is ... Blair is NOBODY's fool.

I used to watch those Sunday Night showings of the British Parliament ... questions to the Prime Minister. John Major was PM, and Blair was the Labor Oppostion leader. Blair was the most agile, arrogant and quick witted pol I'd ever seen. He was Barney Frank fast, just as sarcastic and he turned Major upside down every single week.

I didn't like him, but man he was a force of nature. My point is .... he wouldn't ever shine Bush's shoes for the tribute. He's got plenty of ego, believe you me. He's here, meeting with our Pres, to strategize a common plan that will be the right thing for Britain, the right thing for freedom and democracy, and by result, the right thing for him! He senses a historical moment, and he intends to be Churchill great. He intends to emerge from this Middle East war as the most influential political leader in Europe. And he will. And he will win, and we will win in that journey as well. God willing!

The leaders around the world patronized X42, because if he would lie to his own people he would easily lie to them. This is the stark difference between George W. Bush and X42. These leaders around the world understand and recognize the difference between a bullsh*t artist and a leader

Remember that the Chinese sent an unarmed missile whizzing over Taiwan during Clinton's first trip to Beijing (when he had that kind of Troy Donahue blonde hair color LOL)? And Clinton didn't do anything about it! They knew a weak and corrupt man was on the job, and the White House was for sale. I'll guarantee you, the ChiComms wouldn't dare pull that kind of stuff with Bush visiting. He'd pack his stuff, turn around and head out the door. And there'd be a Carrier in the Straits of Taiwan and lots of extra attention to Chinese companies and shipping concerns within days.

Ok, what's the catch? LOL! Thank you. There's so much negative energy around this thread, you get a little defensive. I have come in here before ... I remember that DOTL thread where Bush visited the troops the first time ... weren't those some fantastic images?

I don't think it's negative energy, just so much sad news these days. Sometimes idiots join in where they don't belong. I just LOVE this thread... I work nights and so I just got home and this always brightens my days.
