I doubt that more than 20% of Americans under the age of thirty know how many died in the camps just for being members of some ethnic or religious group.

I bet fewer than 1% know of the first European Holocaust, the one Eichmann used as a model, the one which killed between 7 and 14 million Christians in the Ukraine. The code words Kaganovitch and Trotsky used to describe the Christians they killed were "kulak" and "bourgeois". That one Holocaust is common knowledge and the other virtually unknown, that Eichmann n is a household name while few know of Kaganovtich does suggest a political agenda, does it not?
