Colder?! Oh yeah, while living in Dayton I walked .5 miles in the snow to get to the bus stop (I'm not that old!) only to find out the busses weren't running and school had been cancelled.
Which meant I had to go home and Mom made me do my lessons at the kitchen table anyway...

Oh, cool! My husband's from Dayton, and he's told our kids the old story about walking to school in the snow, uphill both ways......... you guys were a little backwards down there, I guess! We had busses and snowplows where I grew up in northern Ohio! LOL!
btw, you had a good mom! You were right to thank her for making you do your schoolwork!
