to the west,about 8pm pacific,but as soon is dark you can try,first find jupiter high in the sky,looking west below you will see 3 stars on line,that is orion,to the right is a bright star and saturn,look lower on the horizon and will find mars and the comet,small binoculars will help.

It is. I still remember when I was a kid, in the early 60s, one of the early sattelites was visible for a time in the night sky, and my father used to take me outside to show it to me.
