A right to maintain the Union is reserved by the people. So far, they -have- maintained the Union.

And that right is outlined where?

Both the nineth and tenth amendments reserve the right to the people to maintain the Union.

Poppycock! What this amounts to is having a "right" to hold entire populations of States in bondage to the "Union." The Union which was to serve the States, not enslave them.

Y'all want to make this about slavery. There it is. The South holding certain people as slaves was wrong. The North holding their fellow countrymen captive in a "union" they had no desire to stay in was even more wrong.

Walt, no person, no state, no country has the right, to compel a behavior on another. If your statement here is correct, and 49 states chose to seceed, and Wyoming wanted to exercise its right to maintain the union, then the union would have to stay. Conversely, if Wyoming wanted to leave the other 49, it would be wrong to compel Wyoming's allegiance. What of the concept of free association?
