Solar and natural gas do not have the energy density of petroleum. Aside from nuclear, petroleum has the highest energy density of the myriad fuel sources. That is, if you don't count mitochondria.

I wonder why he left out nuclear energy? Oh, that's right, "split wood, not atoms" -- another way to reduce the US to a third rate power. ;-)
