Gov. Jesse Ventura pulled an April Fools' prank on the State Capitol press corps this morning.

Spokesman John Wodele alerted reporters to a press conference on a half-hour's notice, suggesting that all reporters should show up but declining to say what the subject matter was.

He should have told them that he was planning to run for President.

Legislators are on a long weekend and aren't returning in force until Tuesday.

Smarter than the average politician, if they know to get out of town on April Fools.

He should have told them that he was planning to run for President.

Considering the choices next time, - he should run. -- He could win.

No, he had it right the first time really. I don't know where you live but both antidisestablishment and I live here in Jesse land.

Jesse's latest? Right after 9-11 the State workers went on strike. They reached a settlement and just last week as the contract both sides agreed to went to the Legislature for a vote, Jesse added in a little line of his own. Not negotiated for, not part of the contract.

His addition? Same sex partner benefits for State workers. He's threatening not to approve the contract if it's not included even though the workers union agreed to the contract without it.

Last years deal for Jesse? The Legislature, with the approval of 70% of the public approved a 24 or 48 hour waiting period for abortions, (I can't remember now the time frame but it was minimal). Jesse refused to sign the budget that it was attached to until the waiting period language was taken out even though it had bi-partisian and public support.

Oh, one more for you. The Legislature cut his security budget. Jesse travels extensively to appear on such important programs as The Tonight Show and David Letterman on the taxpayers dime to do such important things like promote his latest book. He's decided that if they're going to cut his security budget, he's closing the Governors Mansion and is going to go live at his home. One small problem is that when the Mansion was donated there is a stipulation in the deed, placed by the donor, that if the Mansion is ever closed that it must be demolished. He doesn't care...it's all about Jesse.

We had four inches of snow here today and the roads were horrible. It was coming down pretty good at the time he called his press conference. There was a 30 car pile up on the main beltway around the cities if that tells you how bad it was, (and we have great snow removal equipment here). He calls a press conference for this on 1/2 hours notice and people from the local television stations are racing to get there with camera crews and newspapers with cameramen. It wasn't safe to be driving at those speeds period. No thought for any of this from Mr. Ego though. He's going to "payback" the media for picking on him for the past three years.

He's the biggest crybaby, whiner, all about me jerk that's ever been elected Governor, (and that's saying a lot!). Oh, and I voted for him. He ran a brilliant campaign. Be afraid, be very afraid if he runs for President. He got the 18 year old voters out in huge numbers here in MN. Know what one of his first acts was? Cut the funding for the U of M,(which I happened to agree with), which totally ticked off the people that actually put him in office. This man is a goon. period

I had the good sense to get out of minne back in 59, but most of my family still lives there, -- many of whom had the good sense to vote against the socialist republocrats that run that state.

I'm proud to say they voted for Jesse, even if he turned out to be just another clown.

This country could use thousands more, -- of politicians just like him, -- to rattle all the cages in this madhouse.

LOL! Maybe you're right, but good grief, he's exhausting!

Like I said, I voted for him. He seemed like a breath of fresh air. Until you actually live with the games. He's just like the rest of them, believe me. He is nothing like what he represents himself as when he does his publicity stints.

Here's a flash for you. -- Life is all a big game.

The trick is to find a place where you can live a good one while you play.

California was good, real good, for me, from 59 till about 90.

The socialist bastards finally took over this state completely about then.

It was good to see old Minn shake em off a bit for Jesse. -- Keep it up and I may move back. -- Just in the summer, that is.

Well, we'll keep the mosquitos hungry for you ;)

I think Minnesota runs close second for socialism to California. Oh well, we also have a lot of good things here. Then again, we have Wellstone...

Has he raised taxes? Has he compromised on government aid for the new stadium? I don't know but if not, he is still far better than any likely alternative.

I read some of the previous Ventura posts and see that he has proposed raising taxes rather than cutting spending. It seeems that he is no better than the rest.
