I had heard that this is being caused by the electric power companies flushing old depleted electric current out of their lines and the pwoer grid in general.

We got a notice from the our local Gulf Power Co. to turn on all of our lights and leave them on to drain out all the old current before turning on any major appliances. Of course it goes without saying that you don't want to turn on a computer and let all that old, stale current get in your system and do who-knows-what to it.

I think some people have mistaken this for a virus.

Thanks for the info on the stale current. That answers my questions about the television volume flucuating and the lights sometimes going dim, then bright again.
