Bumping for a history lesson.

Thanks for the post!
So, what you describe are people that in a way just could never grasp the concept of "change".
Kind of like all the types grousing about the change in this forum?

Interesting discussion.
However, it ignores the fact that a group of people becomes a nation when it thinks of itself as such. Nations come into existence and fade away.
If ancient history were required for national status, most of the independent nations of the world would not qualify. For instance, India (despite an ancient history) had never been a unified state prior to its gaining independence from Britain.
I am willing to wager that nobody can post a disqualifying factor for Palestinian nationhood that does not equally fit at least one other group whose national status is universally accepted.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a supporter of the present Palestinian actions, but denying that this group is a nation NOW serves little useful purpose.
The debate should be about how to deal with the Palestinian nation, not whether these roughly five million people should be accorded that status.

This area was also referred to as the Levant. I don't hear of anyone referring to themselves as Levantines and proclaiming rights deriving therefrom.

For interested lurkers/posters:
Radio commentator Michael Medved has an excellent tape about this topic called "Why They Fight".
Granted that Mr. Medved as an observant Jew (born and raised in the USA) can't
help but be sympathetic to the Israeli side of the dispute, he does
a good job of detailing how the Israelis and Palestinians have arrived at
their current juncture.
Myself, as a native-born American of Christian culture background, can only say that
what is happening right now is that the Palestinians still can't believe they
backed the wrong horse in 1948 by not making a decent accomadation with the Jews who
legally bought their land holdings...and that the 1967 and 1973 wars even made
their situation worse.
They now are trying to do what has happened to Jews over many generations.
The Palestinians want to kill/drive into the sea all the Jews and take over the
buildings and infastruture built up over the past hundred years...and not pay a cent for it.
Just my naive opinion from having listened to Jewish/Palestinian conflict
since I was a tyke.
(Oh, I suspect anyone interested in the Medved tape can find it for sale on his website

The following is a link to a history of "Palestine" as promoted by Hammas. (Barf Alert) but very detailed and interesting. It offers some insight into how they justify to themselves their despicable acts.

Just adding to the GGG catalog, not pinging the list. Added because of the discussion of the Islamic war on western scholarship. Ebla is discussed. Please FREEPMAIL me if you want on, off, or alter the "Gods, Graves, Glyphs" PING list --
Archaeology/Anthropology/Ancient Cultures/Artifacts/Antiquities, etc.
