NO, no, I mean how do I restrict the search?

Before you could do that search for one or multiple users. You could limit the search to posts on a certain date, or a time window. You could find posts "to" a person, Or, just posts "By" a person. Or both together.

If we haven't lost all that utility now, how do I do THOSE kinds of searches again?

I don't see it, but John obviously has the subroutine so maybe we can ask him to add it back to the new search page.
