E148, once you get everything set up right, you may like it better. It's like installing a new program on your computer. At first it's a pain but worth the effort.

Oh great. That's just what we need to get more people to visit FR. Visiting FR is like installing a new program on your computer. They'll be flocking over here. Many many people are not computer savvy. If anything, FR should have become EASIER to use, not HARDER. We're having a hard time using the new and improved FR and we've been visiting this site for four years. Newbies will click, see how complicated it is, and leave.

Can you tell me why the change was necessary?

If the answer is that it uses less bandwidth, can you tell me how something that is more complicated, has a confetti look, has parts of the screen in the worst possible viewing color (BLUE), makes me have to scroll left and right to see everything, has many many more things to click on to do the same things that were automatically there..... can you tell me how this uses less bandwidth?

...and one more thing. Here's a message that's appearing at the top of my screen:

Notice: In the left-hand sidebar you will find several links offering options to tailor the look of Free Republic. On "listings" (latest posts, etc), the sidebar will contain "Show Brief", "Show Full", "Show All", and "Show Threads". Try each setting, whatever you select will be remembered the next time you visit the page.

The word "listings" mentioned above in the notice is only listed in that notice itself. How can directions be given, mentioning the word "listings" and the word is nowhere on the entire screen except in the notice. What is "listings?" I have done a search for the word "listings" on the page. It does not appear except in the notice. What is a "listing?"

The new and improved FR is so complicated that folks who have been visiting and participating for over four years need directions? (Directions that don't make any sense, either.)
