The format is flashy and very attractive -- and a complete pain in the posterior to use. I have already decreased my visits to this site for breaking news, since I can't figure out how to get it even following the directions. I have my own website and people always say how easy it is to navigate. Clearly the person who did the FR one is VERY talented...but making things more difficult on a website is an unwise idea. As of today, this website is not an easy one to navigate. If FR can keep the new look and make it a bit easier to get breaking news, etc. they'll have the best of both worlds. If they say "this is the way it's going to be" then that is the way it is going to be...and they are also going to lose some people who visit.

I have Breaking News, Religion, UFO's and Focus Software as my right sidebars. It took about 2 minutes to set them up. I can, at a glance, look at the areas I like. And I can skip all the chatter threads.

If a dumbass carpenter like me can learn my way around in a short time, I would think you smart guys could also.

I've seen a lot of changes to this forum since I came on board, pi$$ed and moaned about every one of 'em, yet there's no other place like it for a free ranging exchange of views.

And if your web site is so easy to use and you're so proud of it, why not link it on your profile?

Just asking. :^)

1) Go to the News/Activism forum.
2) Click on "Topics" at the top of the page.
3) Scroll down the topic list and find breaking news - click on it.
4) Look for the "Click here to subscribe" link - click it.
5) Repeat for other topics you would like in your sidebars.

It's not that hard. It was a bitch until John put up the Topics button (on top) (LOL! Having written a few pages, I DO know about that kind of error!). One can even set how many in each window and how the are organized, whether you want full posts or headers. It just takes a little experimentation. There are a few buttons where the labels are somewhat ambiguous, but that's an easy fix.

I didn't like it at first either. One thing I would like to see is a setting for a maximum size on the top frame with the banner announcements in the self-search (My Comments (bad label John)).

Flexibility such as this is a lot like freedom in self-government. It only works when the citizens are capable of managing it. Should we make the effort to learn or sit and whine that it's too hard?
