I think that the new look is FABULOUS! ANd I thank the whole FR team for taking what must have been HUNDREDS of man hours to do all of this. I think it looks fantastic, and if you guys take the time to look around you'll see a lot of great new feature--head over to My Preferences to start.

The site looks fabulous and VERY professional- which I think is very very important to the way outsiders see us. I never did like the look of the old FR- it looked too old fashioned.

Thank you FR team for giving us a gorgeous new site with LOTS of great new features that are very practical. Everyone else- quit your whining and start learning how to use the new stuff! Sheesh you whiners sound like my 73 year old grandmother complaining about trying to figure out the internet!

Jim has promised me that he intends to impliment Style sheets into the site like we had last year. Im assuming he will make available templates to choose from or share with other users and even make your own to upload. If anything this site will eventually teach the unteachable on CSS and HTML. Not ALL is lost!

Screwing with the sidebar is a bad move. It is what attracts everyone when they visit the page.It shows how on top of things we are and for people just getting in for the day. Some of the upgrades are nice just return the sidebars to the way they were.

The fonts in the subscription sibear are way too small to read. The colors used to offest the subscription topics from the background doesn't help, either. Is it really necessary to load up the entire reply and replied-to post in the self-search section? Some people are going to have reams of stuff popping up! The old self-search was better.

I have no idea how to contact Jim or John but you can consider my support for FR including financial ended as of today. I wouldn't even want anyone knowing that I was associated with this so called new and improved artsy craftsy pile of crap.

That would be excellent. Thanks for letting me know. Did he mention any time frame for this? [I don't want to bother him -- I'm sure he has more than enough e-mail today after making this change :-).]

For people who are happy with the new formatting, remember that any layout will look very different with different browsers, different monitor sizes and resolutions, etc.; it's not just a matter of getting used to something new. (I have no problem with the new navigation, or the new sidebars, etc. That's all fine. I just would like the formatting to be readable and useable, which it was yesterday. Technically, this is completely separate from the new features.)

Not to nit pick but you all had a week to look around as Jim R put the beta up for consumption on the header of the old site...

I won't nit pic either.

The new design is terrible. I did go look at the "beta" - once. That was enough.

I don't know where you got your ideas from, but those who are critics of their own work are not to be trusted. The proof of the pudding is what the audience thinks.

If the new interface were a Broadway show, it wouldn't play a second night - depite all the work the actors and directors had put into it.

wonder if FR has been taken over by the NWO types in an attempt to confuse the hell out of all of us since we're so close to exposing their oh so subtle plot.

and while the new look did cause me a certain amount of angst this morning, I'm coming around.

That's me ---everytime they change it, at first I don't like it and grumble to myself ---but I think if they suddenly put it back to the way it was 3 years ago, there'd be as many complainers. It just takes a couple times to get used to changes --but they are usually good.

My only complaint so far is that when I go to an article and return to the forum I wind up at the top of the page instead of where I left from. Other than scrolling down is there a fix for this?

it looked too old fashioned. Hey, this IS a conservative forum. Slick bells and whistles aren't all they're cracked up to be.

I also hate the fact that nobody thought to give us the option to keep the old interface for our personal use when the non-beta version was implemented.

I wanted to do something quickly this morning and couldn't. This new interface should be EASIER to use, not less so.

At the very least defaults should have been set to make the interface as much like the old interface as possible.

Buttons should have the same names; prefs should be set so that posts scroll as on the old version, with titles only; The sidebar should have been set so that users are already subscribed to former sidebar categories.
