"The problem is the "republican" who was elected next is no better."
If you can't see the difference between Bush and Clinton, you need glasses and a clue.

I can certainly name a few things Bush has done:
Tax cuts, which did NOT benefit only the wealthy, but they DID benefit only those who pay income taxes, AS IT SHOULD BE.
An education program that does more for holding schools responsible for the quality of education they provide than any previous program
Conducted the war in Afghanistan in as ethical a manner as a war can be conducted. (If Clinton or Gore had been in the whitehouse, they would have just shrugged their shoulders about what happened on 9/11.)
There are other items I could name, but you aren't worth any more of my time. Have a nice day.

The poor who don't pay income taxes didn't get anything; the middle class got their $600 rebates but little else and now are being hammered by rising unemployment and stagnant DJIA; and even the richest 5% who received the greatest direct benefits lost more in the stock and bond markets than they received. A person who wants to benefit from Bush's scheme better plan on dying in 2009, the only year estate taxes will be abolished.

O.K., even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while.

If Clinton claimed success in Bosnia and Haiti based upon conduct of an "ethical...war" instead of military victory, the Repukes rightfully would have laughed him out of office and even some Dem senators might have voted for impeachment. Dumbya doesn't have a clue about how to find OBL, as the puny presidential pretender promised shortly after 9/11. The double standard applied by many on this board to Bush and Clinton is pathetic.

How could that happen? The impeached *One raised taxes and bragged about all of the good it produced. Why won't this current batch of spinners in the Minority Party do something just like it?

I believe we FReepers should make it a point in 2003 to do everything we can to remind the American public of the Clinton Administration's ENTIRE, true legacy, which reveals how deeply he's damaged our nation. So far, the piece of sewage known as Bill Clinton is pretty much getting a free pass on all of the following.
On the domestic front:
- The clumsy, shortsighted attack on Microsoft that burst the "techno-bubble" early in 2000.
- Economic policies that gave free reign to the types of abuses seen in cases such as Enron, Arthur Anderson, and Global Crossing, to name a few.
- Runaway illegal immigration combined with an extraordinary weakening of INS control over temporary visas, foreign students, and the like. Who knows how many terrorist sleeper cells set up shop here during Clinton's tenure.
- Total disinterest in and negligence of domestic security issues, despite the 1993 bombing of the WTC, increasing terrorist threats throughout the 1990's, the attempted attack on LAX in 2000, and multiple warnings from a variety of sources.
- Bill Clinton personally and blatantly compromising national security by discussing such matters on the phone with then Rep. Sonny Montgomery (D-Mississippi) while simultaneously getting a blow job from Monica Lewiniski. (Instead of coming out against his fellow Democrat, Montomery retired from Congress over this incident.)
- Increasing signs of problems at the FBI and CIA that went completely unaddressed. Examples include Ruby Ridge, Waco, falsified testimony by the FBI lab, the Los Alamos Nuclear Lab case, and the Aldrich Ames, Earl Pitts, and Robert Hanssen spying cases.
- Increasing Democrat Party subversion of our elections through voter fraud, deliberate enticements to illegal aliens to vote, etc.
On the foreign policy front:
- The questionable, if not illegal sale and transfer of super-computer and missile technology to Red China by American corporations like Loral.
- The proliferation of nuclear weapons to Pakistan and North Korea. In the former case, Clinton essentially shrugged, and the in latter, he was complicit (see article exerpt below).
- Near total inaction in the face of rising radical Islamist terrorism against American interests worldwide.
- Appeasement of Yasser Arafat and a near total sellout of Israel first via the Oslo "peace process," and then in a near manic attempt in 2000 to force Israel to cave to the Palestinians. When Arafat rejected this deal, he began the bloody 2-year terrorist assault on Israel.
- The failure to take Osama bin Laden into custody when the chance was offered by Sudan. In fact, the Clinton Administration's solution as to what to do with bin Laden was to tell Sudan to ship the man to another country. They did. Bin Laden set up shop in Afghanistan, and the rest is a bloody history that is still unfolding.
- The complete mishandling of Iraq, eventually leading to the collapse of inspections in 1998.
- Failure to do anything about the 1995 Russia-Iran deal in which Russia would build at least one and possibly two nuclear reactors in Iran.
- The bungling in Somalia, Haiti, and the Balkans (the latter arguably more the fault of the European Left).
- The Clinton Administration's dangerous appeasement of North Korea. The 1994 "deal" was essentially payment of blackmail, which continued in various forms into early 2000. (In 1997, consideration was actually given to undertaking negotiations to formally end the Korean War!)
Following is an exerpt from a recent article by Rich Lowry (full article can be found here), which succinctly summarizes Clinton's policy of appeasement:
[begin Lowry article exerpt]
The danger is mistaking airy sentiments and assurances with reality. This was a mistake that the Clinton administration inflated almost to a strategic doctrine: Don't verify, if you can trust instead.
Pyongyang signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1987. By the early 1990s, it was clearly in breach of the agreement and had begun to stiff inspectors from the IAEA.
...Clinton's...reaction was to reward North Korea by agreeing in 1994 to provide 500,000 tons a year of heating oil, undertake a general warming of relations and amazingly enough, build two light-water nuclear reactors.
This was justified on grounds that light-water reactors -- in contrast to heavy-water reactors -- are inappropriate for making weapons. But it's not so.
According to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, a light-water reactor "would routinely discharge in spent fuel as much as a few hundred kilograms of plutonium each year. If the fuel burn-up was reduced, perhaps during a national security crisis, the reactor could produce significant quantities of weapons-grade plutonium."
The safety of the reactors, in other words, is dependent on North Koreans not cheating -- their obvious penchant for which is what prompted the reactor giveaway in the first place.
But President Clinton was not willing to push too hard for the return of inspectors (which was supposed to be one of the points of the agreement), partly because that would risk blowing up all his negotiating handiwork.
So, North Korea got aid, and we settled for empty promises -- in a classic arms-control dynamic. After all of this, the Bush administration is still being urged to "engage" with the North.
Indeed, if promising to build two nuclear reactors didn't work, maybe we should offer four instead. And they say Kim Jong Il is crazy? [end Lowry article exerpt]

In reality, Bush's tax cuts limited the impact of Clinton Era market manipulations.
The middle-class needed that $600 to offset the unemployment caused due to the impact of 9/11 on the market.
If you're supporting an extension of the abolishment of the estate taxes, I'm sure Bush would accept it. I'm very sure he would look forward to making it permanent. There's little sense in taxing goods that have already been taxed doubly and sometimes triply, yet again, simply because you had the misfortune of dying.
Bush's education program can be improved...by throwing over the NEA and forcing all primary schools into the free market.
There was no war in Haiti. Clinton gave it over to the forces of evil.
How do I know?
I know what's happened in Haiti since, and what's happening there now. Clinton certainly didn't help the island nation one whit.
BTW: The Balkan War isn't a good example of an ethical war. Not even one that is as ethical as possible. An easy example is the refugee convoy. Pilots initially refused to fire upon the convoy until ordered to fire upon it with insistances that enemy troops were using it to disguise their movement. There's no equivalent in Afghanistan.
You'll have better luck in forums with people who are less informed.

Hi Murray. The Dow is at 8,741.76 this morning, about 500 point UP from when we spoke a week or so ago. LOL!
Here's hoping you were smart enough to sell everything when the DJIA skyrocketed up to 8742 for a few precious hours. The markets sure reacted positively to your war hero's economic "stimulus" program speech yesterday, didn't they?

You, of course, skipped over the rest of my statement. Ping me again every three months.
By the way, it's still way up over where it was on the previous thread.

There's little sense in taxing goods that have already been taxed doubly and sometimes triply, yet again, simply because you had the misfortune of dying. Your post actually captures the essence of the most important reason why it is essential to retain the estate tax. Huge stock capital gains of the type amassed by Bill Gates and other capitalists will never be taxed if the stock shares can be willed to heirs free of any estate taxes. Remember that dividends paid by MSFT are 0.00 per share, as they have been ever since the company's inception.

Here, distract yourself with this.

If you'll recall: Under Bill Clinton, the White House became a glorified motel, where the Lincoln Bedroom was rented out to contributors who coughed up enough dough.
Markie Post and Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, caught in mid-bounce on the bed in Lincoln's bedroom, like they were in a dormitory, arms out, Post with her knees up, gleeful smiles on their faces. Of course we all know the plots involving Thomason and her husband i.e. travelgate.

See...this is what happens when you're from the planet Mars and don't pay attention when Earth's economics is taught.
There is absolutely *no* possible way for money like Bill Gates to be placed in an area where it does not contribute to the economy...*and* suffer some form of taxes against the wealth it creates.
Can you think of one?
It doesn't, for example, fit in a shoebox under the bed.

Bush's legacy is a tax cut benefiting only the rich, lending back the amount of their tax cut to support increased deficits resulting from Bush's foolish borrow-and-spend schemes. Based upon 22 months of lies, 2.8% higher unemployment, and a plummeting DJIA, Dumbya's legacy certainly is a disgrace compared with Clinton-Gore!
Yea hon, anyone making more than 35k a year is rich. Your guy Bubba is a disgrace to himself, to his family and to the country and the history books will show that. You liberals are such whinning losers and your gig is up, deal with it honey.
