It's a shame that President Bush cannot do the right thing which is not sign this bill. I will be leaning towards not voting for him in the next election.

I hardly think making a joke about the Constitution is worthy of someone holding our nation's highest office. Especially when the comes to putting it above your craven political needs. And Mr. President, it seems to so many of us your actions belie conservative principles. You say you want us on board but apparently as long as we don't do anything to embarrass your staff's pursuit of Republicans without real convictions label. Good idea. If we stay home in November maybe that will provided a much needed wake-up call for the White House. If it still doesn't the party base will be certainly to reflect it in 2004. People may not care if you sign CFR, but they will certainly take offense if you and your people act like we're the crazy aunt in the basement.

The only acceptable alternative to Bush

However, after only four days in office FreeRepublic is in an uproar and the perfect conservative has lost his entire base. When asked why, the 3rd party coalition that elected him says it broke apart when their perfect conservative contradicted himself and could not seem to make up his mind on which base was the real base.

CFR isn't a dealbreaker with me, bt it's pretty close.

How in the world can you sign something that's UnConstitutional and then expect to the Supreme Court to play "goalie" and prevent serious damage from being done?

Signing this bill is risking the Bill of Rights for political gain.

It's gambling with our rights to avoid looking "bad"

How the hell is this consistant with the oath Dubya took to uphold the Constitution? It's literally Betting the First Amendment on a crapshoot.

Maybe Bush has decided to allow Daschle to be the Domestic President?

why should he be the public bad guy?

Because we will always remember how he signed a law that would be unconstitutional and how cavalier he is about giving away our free speech. This also goes for McCain, and all the others that voted against our free speech.

He may be trying to defuse a possible plan to use a veto as proof that Bush does not want campaign reform - look how he got into office - with the Supreme Court. But, this goes against the trust we have placed in him and in his word. It will take a long time to rebuild that trust when torn down.

My firm belief in Bush and his goals has been shaken by this action - I am disappointed.

This leads to me to believe that there are "other reasons" for signing this bill. Basically, politicians of both parties seem hell-bent on taking away our Rights and eroding the Constitution.

This seems to contradict your Occam's Razor theory.

The Patriot Act was the beginning of questionable actions by this administration

and Congress...

Well, I said Bush lost my trust and respect - and he has. But as long as you know I'll vote for him again next time instead of the Democrat, you're fine with that. I never said I was voting for any of the guys you've mentioned. Besides, who I choose to vote for or if I vote at all is up to me and my conscience. I'll weigh the options and the consequences, thank you. You shilling for Bush doesn't help him one bit.

"Was the Brady Bill ever taken before this court?"

The following article was printed in the "Sentinel of Freedom", 2790 Wrondel Way, #41, Reno Nevada.
It was authored by Richard I Mack, the Arizona Sheriff
who brought suit against the Federal Government over the "Brady Bill".
His quote of the final decision of the Supreme Court on the case,
as written by Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia
is one of the best we have seen, and should be used to take out many other federal regulations.

Sometimes I find myself wondering if these guys (Bush, Lott, Daschele, Hastert, Kennedy, etc....) don't sit around behind closed doors drinking a beer, slapping each other on the back, and laughing about how they are so effective at pulling the wool over our eyes, when it comes to taking away our Rights.

and a Republican might as well be the one to take away the issue from the Dems

THE POINT OF ELECTING REPUBLICANS IS SO WE WON'T GET DEMOCRAT LAWS PASSED. Got it??

If the GOP is going to give the Democrats what they want, then why do we vote for them???

nobody outside this realm gives a rat ass about CFR. besides, Bush never had a true hardcore conservative base in the first place, if he had one, the 2000 election wouldn't be such a mess. CFR ain't "read my lips" because most people just don't care. RINOs? why don't people of their states vote them out of office? because they simply don't care. This is political reality, and Bush is playing along, and I don't have problem with that.

Bush said, "It will be a signature. I won't hesitate. It will probably take about, you know, about three seconds to get to the 'W.' I may hesitate on the period, and then rip through the 'Bush.'‚"

I think this was made up by the WP writer. We should demand to know if it is in fact true, from who ever we have to get the information from to confirm it is true or not. If it is not true then the WP needs a good freeping too. If it is true and President Bush said just what the WP said, he is a stained President which could just be the start.

In this case, the "other reason" is also the "simplest", although definitely not the easiest to want to accept :-)

He's already starting nominating some more liberal judges, giving the Democrats what they want. Is that great or what?? Taking that issue away from Democrats... gee whiz

Who does that leave us? McCain? Gore? Hillary? Sometimes one has to be pragmatic and make do with the best we can get at the moment. Bush is the best at the moment.

You can be sure, however, that George Bush II is no Ronald Reagan.

I believe there will be a spiritual experience out of this human weakness moment and hopefully it will turn the patriots of America back to George W Bush and many hurt feelings mended. Somehow, God has a plan in all this and we have to be just a little bit more patient, but of course, we all want our cakes and ice cream right now, but sometimes that isn't how God works in a crisis moment such as this! Pray for our Commander in Chief as well as our President! Grassontop
