Having just endured this piece of tripe recently, I would have to say "The Cider House Rules"

Fried Green Tomatoes
Thelma & Louise

275 Posts and no one mentioned Fried Green Tomatoes! All three of these movies depicted men as jerks.

Perhaps these three aren't the most liberal, but they need to be included in the pack as a particular kind.

The Shawshank Redemption. The prison inmates are universally noble and good, the prison administration is universally corrupt and evil. Plus numerous gratuitous shots at Christianity.

I thought of this when someone mentioned The Color Purple. I loved both of these movies as movies--while at the same time realizing what anti-American propaganda they were. The point is that cinema is a liar's art, and--here I am also reminded of Triumph of the Will and Battleship Potemkin--great films can be made in the service of evil.

The Day the Earth Stood Still(1951): Displaying apparent superior
scientific intelligence, mesmerizing suave demeanor, and charming
good looks, charismatic liberal from outer space proposes disarmament
and socialist world government through the UN. In ludicrous fits of what
can only be described as campy self-satire, the basic scenario is
adopted by liberal democrats for the next five decades as millions
of voters are hoodwinked through the Clinton years. If you've ever
felt like you were living in a B Sci-Fi movie, you almost have been.

I don't want to read through all of these. I'm sure I'm not the first to offer up American Beauty.

The low budget movie that shocked the pundits by being so popular called "Billy Jack" by Tom Laughlin is very liberal. As is the movie "The Born Losers" that introduced the Billy Jack character, and sequels like "The Trial of Billy Jack."

According to billyjack.com, they plan to make a new Billy Jack movie sometime in the future.
