MIAMI - Janet Reno is headed to Hollywood.

The former U.S. Attorney General is booked for NBC's "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno on Tuesday, capping off fund-raisers in three California cities to build her campaign war chest for Florida governor.

Reno spokeswoman Nicole Harburger said the candidate will also be the guest of pop star Elton John at his swanky post-Academy Awards party Sunday in Los Angeles.

Reno, a Democrat vying to defeat Gov. Jeb Bush, was attending a fund-raiser Friday night in San Francisco held by Esta Soler, director of the Family Violence Prevention Fund.

She will return to Florida briefly for Saturday's state AFL-CIO convention in Jacksonville, where she'll try to nab the labor group's endorsement.

Reno then returns to the Golden State for a fund-raiser in Sacramento held by Democratic activists Eleni and Markos Tsakopoulous on Sunday and an event in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Reno ends the trip with a Tuesday afternoon taping of the "Tonight Show" where she'll appear with actress Jodie Foster.

There is something rather odd to me about the fact that Reno can (1) get invited to Elton John's Oscar Party, and (2) get booked on Leno for a nationwide audience; yet, (3) she can't attract more than 15 (fifteen) people to a fundraiser in Jacksonville.

Meanwhile, it seems that her Dem opponent, Bill McBride -- despite all his big endorsements here in FL -- should hang it up, unless he can get himself booked on Letterman and get a date for the Oscars, too. Looks like McBride is being crushed by all Reno's glamorous connections. Hmmm...I guess Hollywood is what really counts when you run in in a FL Dem primary. Right, Bill?

Ironically, I was asked to assist Ms. Reno in her campaign. Of course, I would not. I have issues with Jeb and his views on how the Department of Children and Families is (not) working in efforts to protect children from abuse. Yet the last thing I would want to see is a woman who will allow the removal of children at gun point.

Jeb is aware of this and it disappoints me to no end. What is happening in the DCF is like covering up a pile of doggydoo with a cow patty.
