How did we as a nation ever sink so low as to allow do-nothing elitist scumbags like that to represent us? That place needs an enema
Our government was intended to be led by representatives elected from within our rank and file. They were to serve briefly and then get the hell out. The bastards created a nobility class instead. The fastest way to end this disconnect would be to say NOBODY can serve more than two terms - PERIOD. There endeth the career politician.

$100 million in renovations, private dining rooms and French chefs don't feed a hungry child. Bump...

Well, I see this article solicited the response ABC hoped for :)Even stopped clocks and ABC can be right on occasion!

Good grief. Do these people just lose any sense of decency once they are sworn in?

Oh God, this is so embarrasing. Don Benton used to be Chairman of the Washington State Republican Party. Actually, it was only for about a six month period and he made such a mess of things that we threw him out. With bird brained things like this, THANK GOODNESS!

"We as members of the Senate have come to look forward to the quality food prepared by Jean-Pierre and Kerri, After reading this, I had to double-check this wasn't from The Onion. What a sissy. Who do this jerk think he is? He sounds like some kind of spoiled child of royalty.

Someone ought to write this obese piece of trash. Who says Republicans are always better than Democrats.

What I never can figure out is do they really think that nobody will notice? Do they care?
I figure if I, sitting down here in Raleigh, can figure out how bad this not MIGHT, but how this WILL look to the general public, why can't they? Don't they have advisors or staff that tell them they might look like "Let 'em eat cakers?"

Can see why this crybaby is squealing like a pig, must have spent a lot of time at the free trough.
Hey piggy, less time eating and more time working.
Better yet, the homeless people on the street would enjoy a meal why don't you invite them????
I guess not, they are also UNACCEPTABLE.
Have a nice day, piggy.

I doubt it, and I suspect that ABC mischaracterized what these Republicans said. Benton, for all his faults, has actually been a big supporter of lowering taxes and getting government out of the lives of Washington citizens. Brad Owen is actually one of the good guys in state government.

"This is unacceptable," wrote Sen. Don Benton, a Republican, in a letter signed by 36 of the 49 state senators. "We as members of the Senate have come to look forward to the quality food prepared by Jean-Pierre and Kerri, as well as the quiet camaraderie of our fellow Senators in a private setting."

I don't know. I think it is a result of their self-proclaimed importance that they attach to themselves once 'senator' is placed in front of their names. I used to think it only happened on the national stage, but clearly that is not the case.
I will have to make sure this gets local play.

Just read this quote again: "We as members of the Senate have come to look forward to..."
I guess since he has "come to look forward to", it becomes an entitlement. I look forward to eating stone crabs every now and then, that doesn't mean I'm entitled to them. Almost makes me want to punch him in the face.

A "Well, Mickey D's is good enough for me!" lunch-time bump.
And I'm gonna call my state senator on Monday and find out what they do for lunch. And I'd better not hear anything about some fancy French chef and exclusive darn dining room.
