...Tonkin is in this picture representing and servin in the Coast Guard. Hi TONKIN !

The Southern Coos Health District Health and Safety Fair attracted a crowd to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bandon last week.

Volunteers taught students from Langlois' Blanco School and Bandon's Ocean Crest a variety of issues from water and boat safety, bicycle and pedestrian safety, emergency situations with strangers, nutrition education on diabetes, hygiene and hand washing, animal safety awareness and video violence awareness.

Students also learned about boat safety and what to do in case of a fire. Volunteers helping with demonstrations were from Kiwanis, Key Club, Bandon Police Department Explorers, Southern Coos Auxiliary, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Bandon Fire Department. Seated on the floor are students from Ocean Crest.

"Tonkin is in this picture"

Just look for the old guy. LOL
Teaching the kids about boat safety and wearing life jackets really was a rewarding 2 days.
It was great to actually do something in Bandon itself since I live here.
The Coos Bay Coast Guard Station sends a 47' boat to stay in Bandon from end of May till just after Labor Day each year.
I'll still be working at the Coos Bay Station but in an emergency in Bandon
I'll be close by (4 miles vs 30 miles) to main the radio if needed.
