Move over, Rosie O'Donnell: The newest "celebrity" anti-gun hypocrite is Sarah Brady.
Mrs. Brady "bought her son a powerful rifle for Christmas in 2000 - and may have skirted Delaware state background-check requirements," the New York Daily News reported Thursday.
Some people will do anything to tell a book. No doubt to increase interest in what otherwise would be a boring memoir, the gun rights opponent writes that she bought James Brady Jr. a Remington .30-06, "complete with scope and safety lock," at a gun shop in Lewes, Del.
"I can't describe how I felt when I picked up that rifle, loaded it into my little car and drove home," she writes. "It seemed so incredibly strange: Sarah Brady, of all people, packing heat."
According to her book, the store ran federal Brady Law and state background checks with much ado. But the book suggests she did not have her son checked, as required by Delaware law.
Delaware Justice Department spokeswoman Lori Sitler said the purchase could be illegal if Mrs. Brady did not say who she was buying the gun for and submit his "name, rank and serial number" for an inquiry.
"You can't purchase a gun for someone else," Sitler told the Daily News. "That would be a 'straw purchase.' You've got a problem right there."
Gun rights advocates were surprised to hear of Mrs. Brady's antics.
"We hope that it's innocuous and there's been no laws violated," said James Jay Baker, chief lobbyist for National Rifle Association. "It's obviously interesting that Sarah would be purchasing firearms of any kind for anybody, given her championing of restrictive guns laws for everyone."
Seniors United Supporting the Second Amendment told NewsMax.com it was asking Delaware and the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate "what appears to be a criminal act" by Mrs. Brady.
"Sarah Brady is infamous for her radical anti-Second Amendment positions and her work to strip the citizens if the United States of their civil rights. She is the head of an extremist group that is working to gut the Bill of Rights," the group said in a statement.
"Sarah Brady is typical of the anti-civil rights radicals," noted John Bender, executive director of SUSSA. "She wants to ban private transfers of guns for everyone but her and her elitist friends. If a black mother in a Delaware public housing apartment did this she would already be charged with a crime. Im wondering if Delaware has different enforcement standards for rich white women.
The group concluded: "Sarah Brady is one of the leaders in the anti-civil rights movements attempt to make all private transfers of firearms illegal. Along with other extremists she pushed Congress to make this type of straw purchase illegal. Law enforcement should show her what her work has accomplished."
Mrs. Brady became a media-adored opponent of the Second Amendment after her husband, James, White House press secretary to President Ronald Reagan, was shot in a 1981 assassination attempt on Reagan.
Oh brother...it went right over your head that I called you ignorant. I just didnt' want to come out and say it...but ..hey ..you're the smart one right? LOL
Resent away. But I do not think you should teach your kids to kill animals....it's wrong.
racoons are trapped for fur and I know a lady who thinks racoon is the best wild game there is to eat. If I shot one I would eat it.
beaver - used for pelt - I don't believe you are allowed to shoot beaver or muskrat. I would use its meat for my dogs if nothing else. I wonder what trappers do with all that meat? Maybe you should go after them instead?
owls are a protected species
birds - yes most small birds are protected except crows and starlings. (starlings are an introduced species and a farm pest) Again, I say, get a hunting regulations booklet.
cougars yes - there was just a story about a guy who improperly processed some cougar meat and made jerky of it, passed it out to friends and infected them with trichinella.
coyotes -- Koreans eat dogs... they actually raise them for slaughter. So I'd bet coyote prolly tastes ok. But I've never shot one. I have this emotional attachment to dogs, see....but I am working on making that attachment more specific as times goes by. Still even though I love dogs, I don't begrudge anyone else hunting wild dogs.
CATS yes I mentioned cougar.
rats pest control.....
snakes - not many people hunt snakes. So I thinki that would fall under pest control if they ever did
Squirrels? HECK yeah. Ask any hunting bulletin board. they will tell you squirrel is wonderful (when prepared right - they are rather tough little buggers)
You have some diet
Well not all of us shoot all those types of animals in a license year. Most of us specialize in just a few types of hunting. There are only 24 hours in a day after all.
Ever think of the possibility you aren't making many?
Wolf Attacks The hunting of wolves in the early 1900s was done for predator control. There have been numerous reports and incidents of wolf attacks on humans, especially children, as well as livestock and pets. When I say attack, I mean, the traditional meaning of attack where the wolf confronts, bites, lunges, or otherwise trys to take a child/pet/livestock animal.
When the US Government says wolf attack, it has to satisfy 4 criteria.
a) Wolf has to be killed, examined and found to be healthy
b) Proven that wolf was never kept in captivity in its entire life.
c) There must be eyewitnesses to the attack.
d) Person must die from their wounds.
By this criteria, if you happen to be bit by a sick wolf, or a wolf that used to be a zoo animal, or you survive the wolf attack, you have not been attacked by a wolf!!!
But she watches hunting shows with me and has a realistic view of life, and still feels compassion for the animal, as do I. I feel bad when I shoot an animal. But it is something I have an overwhelming drive to do. It's like the drive to reproduce. I can suppress it and never exercise that ability, but... for me to go on NOT hunting is like saying I won't have sex for the rest of my life (for whatever reason). It is possible to do, but why, when it is something that is considered ethical to do legally under certain conditions?
Wow....see...there is progress and hope for you.
and she misses it again... [cue rimshot]
Yeah right. Of the MILLIONS of hunters that choose to pursue the sport, what percentage would you say do something like that? Maybe .00001%??? Maybe less?
Do you have any idea how many hunting licenses are sold every year?
PETAgirl, you are an idiot.
