Thanks so much for the 10,000 lake lecture on what's been going on in California. You are a font of...Something.
You've obviously researched the issue, you are authentically outraged, and you and every other citizen of your county deserves an explanation why you are paying for the food, housing, transportation and medical care of ... and here's what I'd hammer - someone who is not a legal resident of the county. Grab you best friend from the next county and walk him to the mike and ask if he can get medical care, housing, school vouchers etc ... oh, and he lives in another county. Make them differentiate between your pal and the Sanchez family of four recently arrived from Juarez. You'll pick these arrogant dullards apart. There's going to be 30 folks right behind you to pound home the point. And, ain't nobody leaving until everyone is done.
That's how you change stuff. You can't control the number of illegal immigrants in your community, but you can damn sure influence whether you support them with your tax money or not. If your county cuts them off, they may go next door. Well, rally those folks too. If the politicians quit supporting the interlopers, eventually those who don't work will have to go back to Mexico. It's the local politicians that are the problem, and therefore the solution. I talked to my Comissioner, Randy Johnson, and at this juncture there are no welfare benefits (to his questionable knowledge) or non-emergency medical care authorized for non-residents of Hennepin County. He's going to check with the Dept of Human Services on Monday ... and I told him I was going to follow up, and ready to appear at the next Council meeting with pissed-off backup if we're paying for illegals - Hmong, Somali, Mexican or whatever. That's what we all have to do Sabertooth. Bitching about it on Free Republic solves nothing. It's the creep politicians and "advocates" that reach into your pocket and blatantly gives your bankroll to some "undocumented" Mexican national. The bureaucrats need to be exposed and beyach slapped. The immigrant on the receiving end just takes what some government agent gives them and keeps their mouth shut. Turn the light on the cockroaches. You'll have a blast.
By the way ... if California is screwed up, you and your neighbors let it get that way. I can say that with confidence even from the frozen tundra. Me? I'd do my best, and if the majority sentiment in California is to underwrite several million Mexican citizens, I'd pack my bags and move. That's the beauty of a 50 state Union. In Minnesota, if you speak up, if you get involved ... the politicians bend over backwards to address your concerns. It's really unique, I left a message for Larry Pogemiller(a Democrat mucky muck in the state Senate) on Tuesday and he called me back Wednesday afternoon. They are in session. I had a concern about a Twins stadium bill that I was able to communicate, even after I identified myself as an IR regular on the voice mail. That's pretty solid. I like that part of Minnesota, everybody is accessable, but if I ever become fed up ... I like Austin and Chicago and Reno and Seattle and Fort Myers. You need to feel some sort of a common community in the state you live, otherwise you are going to feel miserable and helpless. That's no way to live. Or, you move to a community out of state where you have shared values with your neighbors. You can't make other people (legally here) leave, but you can.
I have a brother and sister who live in the Los Angeles metro but I would never live in California. I wouldn't accept the State's acquiescence to some bozo like Thelton Henderson, who single handedly overturned the will of the people. That's the California AG's responsibility, regardless of party, to move aggressively against that injunction. The politicians and judges in your State don't give a rip about the best fiduciary interests and will of it's taxpayer citizens. The jackasses of both parties don't like referendums, so they just find a semi-catatonic ringer in the psychopathic 9th Circuit and the vote never happened. I'll bet Thelton gets some sweet Kings tickets. Gray Davis is a typical Democrat operator, and former power-czar Willie Brown is nothing but a thug and bag man. Bad stuff, and there seem to be some really unsavory people at the helm of your state.
I don't dispute your choice, the State is awesome. Lots of folks live in California. 80% wander around in blissful and costly ignorance, 15% are getting rich off the taxpayer booty, and ... Saber, you are part of the 5% who sees the truth and feels powerless to address it. Just kick ass on these slugs, make everyone take a short breath when you walk into a public meeting. Call the damn AG and ask him why he's not litigating the injunction on 187. Make sure your taxes are in order. ;^)
