President Bush and First Lady Laura are on their way to Latin America for a four-day trip with visits to Mexico, Peru and El Salvador. In a stop-over in El Paso, TX, Bush spoke to a crowd about increasing security at our nation's borders. He also visited a local customs inspection area. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

rintense, I just heard on the radio (5 a.m.) that the President is pushing for a revision of the patient's privacy bill of rights. OK, DUBYA! This would mean that parents could be given information about their children's treatment: ABORTIONS AND DRUG USE. I LOVE THIS MAN. He knows it doesn't take a village to raise a child.

Well, if you live in the country, you don't really have a choice. The SCOTUS is the only constitutionally empowered branch to adjudicate. Bush has to execute laws-- even if he disagrees with them or their constitutionality. The only branch the public respects on adjudication is the SCOTUS. Would you believe Clintoon or Al Gore or Tom Daschle if they declared legislation constitutional? Of course not, and neither would most Americans.

This bill has been around for like 8 years. It is not going any where. If Bush vetoed it, the Democrats and McCain would spend the next months up to November talking about how that politicians who are pupperts of corporate interests (Bush, Senate and House GOPers who voted against it) don't want the legislation. They wouldn't try to fix the bill. They want this as an issue more than anything.

Imagine if this November, the midterms go as they have historically for the past 70 years (except for a year of FDR's and Clintoon's administration) and both the House and Senate go Democrat. Imagine if Gore wins the electoral vote and not just the popular vote in 2004. These aren't far-fetched. Gore would sign this law in Feb. of 2005 and we'd be right where we are now-- with the SCOTUS having to kill this. The GOP wanted line item veto, but SCOTUS killed it (do you hear people campaign on line item veto anymore?). The SCOTUS killed separate, but equal, they killed gun-free school zones in 1995. A President can't kill an issue and Congress can't. Only SCOTUS.

McCain is going to have a legacy of authoring partially unconstitutional legislation. Bush in his statement on the bill said that he thinks there are questions of constitutionality on this that SCOTUS has to rule on.

It's not that the dialogue on the issue is risky. What's risky is having this legislation signed in a Gore Administration if that happens. At least Bush said he has questions about its constitutionality-- would Gore? Bush has a chance to give credibility to the unconstitutionality of this bill. You'll have House GOP, Senate GOP, the WH, and the SCOTUS all coming down on the side that this law needs parts of it removed. The public has to believe with all their heart that the SCOTUS is not playing politics and that they are offering a true ruling. Having the Executive and Legislative branches weigh-in that they have questions helps that cause.

Thank you so much for the pictures. After reading the entire thread this morning, I also thank you for fighting the good fight to KEEP the Dose for those of us who simply want to enjoy and appreciate the President and Laura.

Regardless of the "Who? ME?" disruptors, THIS thread is for our nightly enjoyment. We deserve it after what we endured for 8 very loooooong years.

Ironically, after cactmh (?) attacked Bush for supposedly not keeping his word, cactmh broke his own word (Bye) repeatedly when he kept saying he was leaving for the night but didn't. LOL

Apparently, Bucky and the other 'ruptors don't appreciate the beautiful pix of President Bush and Laura. Good. That's our best weapon. Let's "bomb" them with more beautiful pictures - every night. Whew!!! I signed on to the Dose this morning, and thought, what on earth has happened? Thanks rintense for posting these pictures each night and fighting the good fight. Thanks also to all the "regulars" who stuck up for the dose and our President.
My two cents about this CFR bill, it's been said before. Sign this bill, kick it over to the Supremes and for once and for all have them decide this issue. It's been 7 years that this bill has been rearing it's ugly head in one form or another. If W had vetoed this bill it would be back again, and again.
I watched the press conference with Mitch McConnell and his team of lawyers that are going to file suit once the bill is signed. These guys know exactly what they are doing, and I'm confident that they will get the result we all want to see. Mitch said he isn't upset with the President and still a loyal supporter.
I still support the President, I am going to vote for him in 2004, I'm not a one issue Republican. God Bless this Country and God Bless President Bush.

I am so happy that I went to bed and spent the night in the strong and loving arms of the man I've adored for almost 26 years, before I woke up, refreshed and renewed, and read your comments to me, and about me. You see, my husband respects me for my mind, my strength of conviction and my intuitive discernment about people. He would think you were an absolute idiot if he read your silly posts.

And you know, my Dad respects me too, even though I was a defiant, rebellious child. He would laugh himself sick if he read your ignorant comments, because he knows that I have never accepted anyone's word without questioning it, and blindly follow no one. Then there are my sons. They would be on the floor laughing at your accusation that I think my kids are never wrong. Just ask any of my four children about that.

As I carefully reread this entire thread, I have concluded that you must be quite an insecure little man. I replied to your third post, only after you insulted me about my love for my country (and my child-rearing skills), and even then all I said was that you were wrong, and to 'Take a hike.' At that point you apparently blew your stack, and the insults and name calling, not only to me, but to others, both male and female, flew freely from your fingers. And you might note that my only reply to you after that was polite, yet you continued to insult me to others.

You claim not to be a misogynist, but your comments belie your true feelings. (eg, calling us 'hens,' referring to us as silly infatuated koolaid drinkers, wishing to disenfranchise us. Not the words of a man who respects women I dare say).

At any rate, all your ranting and, as Miss Marple so correctly said, 'hijacking of this thread' did nothing to affect the profound respect I have for our President.......not infatuation, but sincere love (which is shared by my husband) for a man who has in one short year returned dignity, strength and optimism to this country. He is the one who loves country over party. He is the one who will do what needs to be done for the common good.

He does not have to make every decision to my liking for me to continue respecting him. That is the essence of respect, which is apparently a concept you cannot grasp.
