I'll start off by saying I'm not impressed; it's busy, and takes up too much space. By this I mean the white space around the edges. I normally wouldn't care about that, but in this case, something about the site makes it too wide for my browser window, although the
information in it fits just fine.
On the posting:
I note that we now have the ability to post without previewing first, and that we can no longer alter our posts from the preview page. I can't say that I'm fond of either of these changes.

I see nothing wrong with it so far.

The reply protocol, on the other hand, seems to be unaltered.
And I do like the ability to customize the sidebar by topic, now that I see it.

I have no comment on the form and function of the beta. But I'd like to take a moment to thank the people that have developed this site, run this site and who are apparently working their backsides off to improve this site.

I'm not a techie, so my reaction is to the basic construction and window dressing:
Better look and, with use, it appears to be easier to navigate.

I wrote to JimRob to ask him whether he could make a mega forum that encompasses all the topic forums.

I'm not impressed; it's busy, and takes up too much spaceA cautious agreement. (I don't mean to offend the esteemed people here.)
I am not certain why there are now differnt "areas" - perhaps to help the bandwidth or for indexing? But I feel cut off from other "groups." I enjoyed seeing what was coming to the "top" of the latest posts - usually politics, but sometimes a vanity or a cartoon. And I liked bumping them to the top. But the other format tonight had no excitement; I had no sense of what the "hot" articles and topics were. It was just a long list of article descriptions.
I'm so happy to see this old format back now. When I want to see additional "articles posted" I just check them out. But for the latest replies, I love the way it was. Can we just be traditional?

I customized mine and it is not much different than when I came to this website pretty nears it's inception. Jim has never taken away any thing from this site he has just added to it! This website is incredible, it is the best message board out there bar-none. I think you might find it worth the time to customize your user options. Thanks again Jim!
I do wish it had spelling though, I'm dyslexic!

Where can I download this new Free Republic software?
To: Jim Robinson
On the Self Search page, now renamed 'My Comments' which, in another nit, I preferred the original, you appear to be missing a paragraph tag between entries when shown in brief.

The format is much too broad. The material runs way off the screen. In fact, the recent changes to the old program have been running off the screen.

Dagnabit, a Beta FreeRepublic?
I have VHS and DVD. No Beta. They're in the wrong format.

I haven't tried it yet...if you can't correct from the preview, I'll be in trouble, LOL
I am still trying to recover from a mistake I made earlier today. Maybe someone can help me?
A few days ago, someone posted a wonderful photo of the WTC Lights with the Statue of Liberty in the foreground. I saved it as wallpaper -- it was beautiful.
What I didn't know was that I had to change the name, so I could play around with my wallpapers. Now I have lost that photo, and don't remember what it was called -- I tried searching everything I could think of, but can't find the thread.
Did anyone else save it? Or can you tell me how to find it?

I like the look at first blush.
And I see Opera listed as one of the three "best viewed with" browsers -- cool !
God bless this site.

I STILL THINK JOHN IS DOING AN EXTREMELY FINE JOB OF IMPROVING THINGS. I know he'll get whatever glitches or minor things cleared up in record time.
Perhaps changing the resolution setting on your monitor would help you.
