I write this letter as a past president of the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood of Omaha and Council Bluffs. Since that time, some 25 years ago, I now realize how utterly wrong abortion is for both mother and child. I thought and firmly believed as many of you now do, that a child growing inside its mother was not really a child, and that women had the "right to choose" to terminate her pregnancy, for whatever reason she believed sufficient. It was even believed that society was better off for it as it was less expensive to pay for an abortion than to add another person to the growing welfare roll. How wrong these beliefs were, and how wrong it was to hold them.
I write to speak out plainly and totally against the abortion business coming to Council Bluffs. As importantly, I also want to encourage you and give you hope that the murderous abomination of abortion can be overcome. However, before we can overcome it in our communities and nation, we must first overcome it in each of our minds and hearts. I implore you to look beyond the rhetoric of the "woman's right to choose," as I did. Don't hide your eyes or look away. Look at the graphic picture of the unborn whose lives are so excruciatingly taken, whose fragile bodies are so viciously torn apart inside their mother's bodies. How can you look at that violence and utterly deny that child's humanity with the simple phrase, "it is the woman's right to choose?"
We are individually, and as a nation, grief stricken and angered even to war over the evil inflicted on us as a result of the World Trade Center attack. We each take what happened in New York City and in Washington, D.C., very personally, and that an attack on those who died, is an attack on us all. The victims were all innocent, not one person who went to work that day anticipated that their life would be ripped away. They did not choose to die that day. Yet, it is with callous impunity that, at worst, we welcome abortion clinics into our city, or at best, we just look the other way. In so doing, you and I allow hundreds of thousands of defenseless and innocent people to die each year in this great nation; a nation that takes well-deserved pride in its zeal to help the defenseless. Are the babies growing comfortably inside their mothers and then violently killed by abortion any less defenseless than World Trade Center victims? How can we be outraged at one and not the other?
I pray that all of you who read this letter and who believe as I used to, look beyond the "right to choose" rhetoric and discover for yourselves, as I did, the humanity of the unborn and their superseding right to live. This violence has no place in Council Bluffs or our nation.
He is now actively fighting his former coabortionists on this issue.
He claims his change was an act of God's grace. He was so grateful for God's forgiveness that he went from outspoken Atheist to Catholc convert.
Who knows what happened to change this former Planned Parenthood president?
