from http://interstellar_web.tripod.com/dmza/id11.html I first learned of RICK RESCORLA after reading the excellent and compelling 1992 book about the early days of the Vietnam War, "We Were Soldiers Once...And Young" by Lt. Gen. Harold G. Moore and Joseph L. Galloway.

LT. RICK RESCORLA became a battlefield legend as Platoon Leader for Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry during the historic battle at Landing Zone X-Ray, in the "Valley of Death" the Ia Drang Valley in South Vietnam, November 1965.

A few hundred American soldiers were ambushed and surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese Army regulars and held the line against repeated assaults. RICK RESCORLA won the Silver Star for Bravery for his exploits in Vietnam.

After retiring from Army Reserves in 1990 as a Colonel, having earned Master's and law degrees, British born RICK RESCORLA went into corporate security and became Vice President for Group Security at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter on the 100th floor of the World Trade Center in New York City.

During the 1993 bombing at the WTC, RICK RESCORLA was the last person to evacuate the building.

Shortly after the attack on September 11th, RICK RESCORLA phoned his wife SUSAN while evacuating staff and told her "if anything happens to me, I want you to know you made my life."

Wife SUSAN says her husband was a wonderful man who made her smile and laugh every day. He knew every song in the world and loved to sing.

As reported by BBC and poignantly by actor Robin Williams during a recent telethon and tribute, RICK RESCORLA was last seen on the 10th Floor of the south tower of the World Trade Center, valiantly organizing people to safety, long after the building's stability had come into question.

Eyewitnesses report he was singing Cornish songs in an attempt to raise the spirits and ease the fear of those desperately trying to survive.

RICK RESCORLA was an American hero in more ways than one.

He never failed to hold the line. On the battlefield, in his job, and in life. He will not be forgotten.

...After 2 month's of my crying out for Accountability for the sudden Death of RICK RESCORLA online and on Talk Radio/TV from September 11, 2001 on...

...GOD suddenly made it possible for me at the last minute to go to our Annual Battle of IA DRANG Alumni Conference over Veteran's Day Weekend-2001 to pay Honor to him myself in Washington, D.C.

...As it turned out, our Saturday Night IA DRANG Alumni Conference Dinner was to be held in Honor of RICK RESCORLA, which I didn't now till I got there.

...At this very Special Dinner ...I ended up sitting at a table next to Mrs. SUSAN RESCORLA and her daughter on one side ...Director RANDALL WALLACE, Gen. KINNARD, The MOORE's and BRUCE CRANDALL on another with JOE GALLOWAY and Actor SAM ELLIOTT on the other. All while I was suddenly 1,000's of miles from my home with 'Dateline NBC' TV Cameras just a rolling away, of all things.

...Before dawn the next morning we of the 7th Cavalry held our own private ceremony in front of our Fallen Heroes' names on the 3rd Panel of the Vietnam Wall.
'Dateline NBC' TV Cameras again were there, along with the newly widowed SUSAN RESCORLA and "WE WERE SOLDIERS" Director RANDALL WALLACE.

...As it turned out this JANE PAULEY-narrated 'Dateline NBC' Story on RICK RESCORLA started out, when it aired in March 2002, with us standing at the Wall in the dark ..with my face looking up at the wall ...and then fading to Lt. Gen. HAL G. MOORE's starting to read the names of our Hero Soldiers Killed in Action at the Battle of IA DRANG-1965. Seems it was all in GOD's Plan..?

...In this week of May, 2003 I had another honor bestowed on me, that of shaking the hand of another Sept. 11th Hero. He was an Associate Vice-President of Morgan Stanley who RICK RESCORLA had quickly evacuated from Tower 2 after the 1st Jet Airliner slammed into Tower 1 on the morning of September 11, 2001.

...On Sept. 12th, the Morning After, this New Yorker got into his truck, commenderred as much foodstuffs his truckbed could carry from very loving New York Shops to give to the Rescue Workers down at the Wreakage of the World Trade Center.

...When he got there he immediately joined the human chain that was forming to clear ruble in the search for Victims in what was a Health and Safety Nightmare.

...America, just WHERE do we get such caring Men as these..?
