I'm a non-parent. I understand....and the good dads really do care, the good parents do. Maybe not totally understand, but I know how my husband-to-be feels so protective over me. I'm not sure we're going to have kids (he doesn't want any due to the state of the world), but we have cats and he's great with them (they're our children :)

As the parent of two, I certainly feel extraordinarily protective of my girls. But I think any decent adult feels something of the same desire to protect any child, not just his own. I know I do.
