The administration's policy in the Middle East just took a dramatic turn in the wrong direction. This turn at once marks a concession to terrorism and a violation of principle.
Just as Israel was defending itself from unremitting, unbearable terror, President Bush stated that what Israel was doing -- targeting terrorists and militarily occupying the land they were coming from -- was "not helpful."

If they played chess they wouldn't think passed the first move. For each and every action the US takes on anything there is also a price. We pay people billions to way these for our Gov't and then they have to move the chess pieces the way they will cause the least damage to the country. I know because I've been doing it for the Gov't for the past 20 years ! You lay out all the options and all the possible results and most of the time the final decision is pretty much a slam dunk becasue the overriding question for the Gov't is "what's in our best interest" for state and "what's best for national security" for the military.
It's not always a conservative or liberal issue but this is how some think !
He was threatened not to by the Arabs and we concured. Sharon had no choice.
Peace will only come when Israel occupies enough 'buffer' to defend itself and the Palistinians are absorbed by Jordan, Syria, Saudia etc.
IMO, we have a common enemy. By 'we' I mean Israel, Russia and Serbia to name a few. If not full efford now, when we can, then when?
No, they will never accept a Jewish peace plan and that's the problem.
They don't want them !
Oh man, you did it now.
I keep hearing references to Bush Senior's animosity to Israel. I remember Barbra Steisand saying in 1992 she would move to England if Bush were re-elected. At the time I was stunned by Streisand's seeming hysteria. She made it seem as if Bush's re-election would bring Cossacks streaming out of the Malibu hills. I couldn't understand why she was so emotional, given that in attacking Saddam Hussein Bush Senior did a bigger favor for Israel than any president since Harry Truman.
That's why I don't understand why Jews were so mad at Bush. Was it Bush's trying to tie loan guarantees to freezing new construction in the occupied terriories? Baker's remark that the jews don't vote for us anyway? Something else?
He's a man who says and does the right thing. What's wrong with that? Bush is the hypocrite.
He honors principles and integrity. It is an excellent article. Do you support the President because he is a Publican rather than a Democrook ?
