News last week that the Immigration and Naturalization Service awarded student visas to 9/11 hijackers Mohamed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi was a major embarrassment for the Bush administration.
But the brouhaha apparently wasn't enough to stop INS Commissioner James W. Ziglar from rewarding his employees within days of the gaffe.
Ziglar was in California last week while the story was reverberating everywhere, handing out cash bonuses and days off to West Coast INS workers for outstanding service, reported the San Francisco Examiner's P.J. Corkery.
No doubt the INS has many fine and dedicated employees who deserve a pat on the back from time to time. But was last week really the best time for handing out commendations?

...added that although these immigrants had broken the law most of them are "good people and good workers."Wonder how many of us could use this as a defense if we were accused of breaking the law??

Recently I had the opportunity to interview the director of National Security of the United States, Tom Ridge, and he said to me that " technically it is possible to define the undocumented as criminals." After saying that to me - seeking to prevent a counterattack by the Mexican side - added that although these immigrants had broken the law most of them are "good people and good workers."
