Like it or not, Bush has peeved and alienated a significant portion of his base.

What I find amazing is the only place I have found peeved voters are on FR, I believe they're called "single-issue voters", and if it is true that this vote will be delayed and quite possibly altered in some way, then I'd say the big deal was made for nothing, or it caused the dems to get in line with what is best for America and not their liberal agenda. I can't say it enough, they do have the illegimate authority to bring to the floor or not bring to the floor the daily Senate's business.

Speaking as a black voter, I wasn't pandered too. I actually researched for myself what each party stood for and made my own decision to be affiliated with the Republican party. Despite the stereotypes many of us do actually study for ourselves and choose what's best for our families.

What if the Dem presidential candidate in 2004 says that he will put an end to the Mexican invasion. What will the genius Bush do then?

Try to get my vote back. If a Dem was serious, and was credible, I would vote for him on this issue.

TOO BAD THE GOP IS TOO STUPID TO FIGURE THIS OUT.

Hmmmm....let me see. I could let in a bunch of people who will vote against me, and have a train load of kids who will do likewise, or I can shut the door and shore up my base before it's too late....

Hmmmm...that's a toughie. I'll commit political suicide in hopes that my enemies will write good things about me.

Or was your point as to whether I knew any personally?

BINGO! Most LEGAL Hispanic immigrants are opposed to any amnesty deal, yet you some how think Hispanics would be mad at Byrd (and the democrats by association) for killing this bill.

It helps to THINK before you post.

That's the bit.
But if you don't beleive GOP congressmen speaking on background, or whatever, consider that the President himself said, on or about the day of 245i's House passage, that what's needed next is to match employers and workers. That's not 245i. Its the larger scheme that was being floated by Colin Powel and Rowe before 9-11 - a broad Amnesty, couched as some sort of "worker's regularization".

I'm *definitely* re-evaluating my assessment of the man. And I definitely can no longer paint a wide brush saying that all dems are terrible. Mr. Byrd is on our side on this one.

Are you blind?

I'd rather have citizenship for workers than pork-barrel politics.

In these two cases neither is justified. I do not want law breakers as instant citizens do you? Good grief we take the rights from our on prisioners for felonies and reward the ones who cross our borders in an illegal manner? Punish one lawbreaker reward another huh? One simple law is what is asked for working here an offical Visa. Now if they can not and they will not even honor this one law we ask of them, then all the other laws we have will be just as useless to them as well.

Bush doesnt get blamed for the immigration clause, while the Democrats get blamed for its EXCLUSION!! Every one here is happy, but the immigrant population blames the Dems instead of Bush!

LOL, similar tactics here in CA. Bush came out for Riorden and greyout davis spends $10 million in ads against Riorden in THE PRIMARY.

Immigration is a fact of life in America.

So is murder, rape, grand larceny, assault, vandalism, AIDS, armed robbery, drunk driving, spousal abuse, drug dealing, tax evasion, perjury, litter, bribery, pollution, fraud, embezzlement, and child pornography.

...and that's just the Clintons.

Perhaps it is not too much to ask that our President actually uphold the laws for a change. The Mexican invasion is exactly that. Go to South Texas, or Southern California and ask if you want all of America to function as they do.

If GWB closed the border, it would be a landslide election in his favor, but the NYT might say "boo" about it. My guess, he will side with the NYT. You watch.

Ahem. I think you need to re-read my post and the many I have made on this issue. Thanks.
