Its chances of making it through the legislature’s Tax and Revenue Committee and advancing to the Assembly floor depends largely on whether lawmakers believe it’s worth the political risk in an election year.

Gosh, what do the libs care. So long as the illegals keep voting up to five times per person, they can continue to shaft the drivers of California and blame at all on the mean-spirited Republican Congress, greedy Enron executives and George W. Bush.

This has possibilities. Make the fee inversely proportional to 25 minus the owner/driver's age and then a flat fee from 23 to 60, and then double the fee every year for those over 60. Other combinations might include at a minimum assessing the owner double if the driver is primarily another family member and making the fee exponentially higher based on dB level of the exhaust/motor system at idle and an additional fee proportional to dB level at highway speed, and double fees for each 5 watts sound system capability over 5 watts total all speakers. Double all fees for mirrored windows whether partial or full, and for dog dolls with wobbling head in the back window.

They want to fill the hole in the $17 billion dollar state budget on the backs of California car owners. Nowhere in the article does it mention cutting government SPENDING. The Rats always look for new ways to get the taxpayers to fork over more. They NEVER look for ways the government could get by on LESS. Bill Simon should pound the tax and spend liberal California State Legislature every chance he gets and ask Gray Davis if he thinks the solution is to have California drivers pay MORE.

Spoken as a true engineer.

But I have a better idea. Just abolish all license fees and stick with the sales tax on gasoline to pay for the roads. Nahhhh....too simple.

Ain't that the truth?! Time for a concerted effort to get rid of these tax crazy Demo psychos. Who's up for a campaign to rid Sacramento of Libs starting with this one?

I just sent the CA DMV a check for $165 (after the VLF offset of $248).

In New York I used to pay $60.
