I don't immigrant bash. Illegal immigrants are citizens of another country and they don't have automatic rights just because Fox said to have access to everything in the US. They have a right to go back home and obey the laws the next time they come over ---legal immigrants are another matter obviously ---provided they are self-sufficient and don't use SSI and Food Stamps. I'm very against bringing in the types who fill up our housing projects. We need to question how much 3rd world conditions we really want to bring in to the US ---come to the border counties and you'll see 3rd world conditions. Try colonias with no running water, outhouses, open sewers ---housing codes are another law many don't choose to follow.

Hey Fitz, I saw plenty of politics during my 15 years in El Paso! Here's the REAL truth as to why the Republicans have written off El Paso: NOBODY CARES ABOUT EL PASO, INCLUDING THE DEMOCRATS! Out of a population of over 600,000, less than 50,000 vote during a November election.

The attitude in El Paso has always been to grab for whatever scraps they can get from Austin. El Paso closely resembles Ciudad Juarez to the South: very few people control the wealth and power in El Paso. There have been numerous stories about the 'brain drain' from El Paso, as thousands of the best and brightest El Pasoans flee to cities such as Dallas, Houston, Austin, etc. for greater economic opportunities.

During the six years since I left El Paso, my income has more than doubled, my kids are in better schools, and I'm able to spend more time with my family.

I could go on and on, but I won't. El Paso could be a great city, but those who pull the levers of power have no desire to lose their exalted status. I loved living there, but weep for the people who have missed out on so many opportunities.

BTW Fitz, how 'bout telling us what part of Texas you live in?
